Applying the Results and Conclusion of the Research
• Results: data collection methods The results were taken from the physician’s claims database identifying physician encounters occurring in the emergency departments that had a principal diagnosis of asthma. Also used for data collection were the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan registry and the 1996 official Canadian census data.
In what way are the data collection procedures appropriate for this study?
The data collection procedures were appropriate for this study because of the ease of collecting the data and analyzing the data with the filters set in place to classify the subjects.
In what way were appropriate steps taken to protect the rights of subjects?
Since the data was retrieved from a database the information can be used safely to protect the rights of the patients. No hands on or questioning were done of the specific patient population to cause harm or undo stress.

All citizens are able to access the Canadian health care system at no cost or some amount of copay depending on their yearly income. The groups of children seen for asthma related conditions are very poor, poor, and non-poor based on their families yearly income. The very poor children had a higher level of accessing care through the emergency room for asthma care rather than in an ambulatory care setting.
