Section I Heightism is a problem that affects a large group of people that share a common physical trait. Height is mostly genetics and is largely out of our control. Yet short individuals are being discriminated against in many areas of their lives. As fellow human beings witnessing this unfair treatment, it is only right that we do something about it. We will be looking at the causes of heightism as well as what we can do to reduce it.
Section II From (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heightism), “Heightism is a form of discrimination based on height. It can refer to the treatment of either unusually short or tall people.” It is one of the most overlooked forms of discrimination which is prevalent around the world. We are aware of racism but it is time we look at heightism. This essay will focus on the various areas where forms of height discrimination can exist. A common stereotype can be best described as the Napoleon complex. It is an inferiority complex said to affect some people because of their height. According to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_complex), “It is named after the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte who is believed to have overcompensated for his short height by seeking power, war and conquest.” Leaders who are small in stature are sometimes being made fun of acting aggressively because they are insecure about their height. As for taller people who display similar behaviour, they are merely being confident and assertive. Ellen Frankel says “A determined tall person is often admired, but a determined shorten person is often said to have a Napoleon complex.” ( 'Heightism ' the last Prejudice)
