Discovered By-Pierre Janssen
Year discovered-1868
Circumstances of discovery- Janssen discovered helium in 1868 when he was looking in a telescope when he found the yellow spectrum lines of helium. It was also rediscovered by Norman Lockyer, Lockyer was the one who made the name helium.
Derivation of name/symbol- Norman Lockyer made the name helium. Helium comes from the greek word Helios meaning sun.
Phase at room temperature-gas

It also was used to cool objects on the Apollo mission. Because it has such low density it can be used to fill balloons.
Toxicity/hazards- The only part of helium that is hazardous to yourself is when it is inhaled. Many people inhale helium, it can be fatal
Abundance- Helium is abundant in America, Africa, Russia and the Middle East
Are there any connections (good/bad) to a living organism? If so, please explain.- Helium is the secondest most abundant element in the world. Being so, it has no real harm against living organisms unless it is used in an improper way. This includes inhaling helium, which in turn can cause headaches but could suffocate you. If in liquid form helium can give you frostbite when in contact with skin.
Life without the element- Without helium we wouldn’t be able to know the types of injuries we have today. Because helium is used in MRI and NMR it shows that without helium we wouldn’t be able to tell what a torn ligament is to a broken bone. We would then treat people different and no one would be healed properly. Also the fun party balloons that we have would no longer float but would just have air in them and sink to the floor instead of staying high in the
