1. Recommend the redesign of Hershey’s performance management system to appeal to the diverse groups that it employs.
The mission statement of Hershey’s is bringing sweet moments of Hershey’s happiness to the world every day. My recommendation would be joint effort between management and human resource to redesign a system that would appeal to all employees. Hershey’s cannot overlook or ignore the potential contributions of women and minorities. Diversity is generally defined as acknowledging, understanding, accepting, valuing, and celebrating differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and public assistance status (Esty, et al., 1995). Hershey’s currently has two generations of workers baby boomers and millennial workers. The baby boomers coach, train, and mentor the millennial workers. If they continue this pattern other age groups would be left out. 2. If you were a Hershey’s employee, analyze how you would interpret the values that Hershey embraces in relation to your role? Hershey’s has identified four values that would benefit employees. The concept of working together for the end result is expressed, by the word “we” which signifies teamwork approach and they welcome change or recommendations from employees. Hershey’s embraces and supports diversity with employees through communication, development and employee relations. In communication, they offer a mentoring program where more experienced employees are teamed with employees that have less experience. This mentoring program offers career development for employees with different backgrounds and abilities. Hershey’s development of open communication, works throughout the whole chain of command.
