High School Football Research Paper
Football is not too dangerous to be played in high school. Football is a popular sport with half a million injuries nationally. 4 out of every 1000 high school football exposures resulted in an injury and 8 of out of every 1000 collegiate football exposures resulted in injuries so that means that even if it’s played in high school or college levels there is still a risk of injuries. High school football players have a greater proportion of getting season ending injuries as in fractures and concussions. High levels of ankle and knee injuries are most common when playing football. But to avoid these injuries it’s recommended that players condition their ankles and knees more, and a change at protecting the more vulnerable body parts. To make …show more content…
is a head-trauma-induced disease linked to depression, impulse-control problems, memory loss, and dementia. More than 20 dead NFL players were found to have C.T.E. There’s an increase in the dangers of playing football like concussions. More dangers for younger players whose brains are still developing. Teens don't always want to tell the coach they have a concussion to risk having to stay on the sidelines. Which is why players get even hurt more for not taking care of the problem before it got worst. High school players usually don’t have expert medical help or none at all. Which is why they get hurt more the college or pro because they have experts taking care of them. Improving helmet technology is a good place to start making football safer. Coaches also need to make sure players with head injuries stay off the field long enough to fully heal. They should also reduce the overall hits to the head in practice and on the field. NFL has started fining or threatening to suspend players who violate existing rules on unnecessary or intentional hits. It’s also considering changing the frequency and structure of practice to lessen the amount of head trauma. In the second article it states, “Concussions are more dangerous for teenagers because, studies show, their brain tissue is less developed than adults’ and more easily 30 damaged. High school players also typically receive less expert medical care than college or pro players, or none at all. There’s also the question of helmets. Many young players use old safety gear that’s been passed down long past its prime. And even new helmets are designed to prevent only skull fractures, not

"Researchers in Bedford Mass have now examined the brain tissue of 128 football players who, before their deaths, played the game professionally, semi-professionally, in college or in high school. Of that sample, 101 players, or just under 80 percent, tested positive for CTE." (LEAGUE OF DENIAL: THE NFL'S CONCUSSION CRISIS n.p.). The information above shows that brain injury is not a small issue, but it is a huge issue! NFL players are in danger because of too much helmet to helmet collision and this has led to deaths and depression. This is a problem that is life threatening and needs to be stopped instantly, but the question is:…

The same for the MRI as the CT scan the patient lays down and becomes slid into the imaging machine. The MRI works but using a magnet to align your water molecules in your head to see which ones do not move. The ones that do not move show where the brain had injury in the brain. The MRI then moves the patient out of the machine and then the results become read by the doctor to tell if the patient had the concussion. The imaging tests operate with one hundred percent accuraccy and one hundred percent effective. With all of the testing and symptoms and much more all of these concussion have prevention techniques to stop concussions.…

The short and long term effects of concussions can be devastating to the human mind. Not only does the brain suffer long term physical damage but many players often suffer from long term mental problems. A prime example of someone who had been affected by head trauma was former linebacker Junior Seau. Recently “a team of scientists who analyzed the brain tissue of renowned NFL linebacker Junior Seau after his suicide last year have concluded the football player suffered a debilitating brain disease caused by two decades worth of hits to the head” (ABCNews). Junior Seau who had a 20 year NFL career was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) after his death. The real question is what could’ve the NFL done to prevent such a terrible tragedy or did they not have the capability to control what happened to him? The NFL has said many times that it did not intentionally hide the dangers of concussions from players and is doing everything it can to protect them. With the focus on head injuries in football being put under a microscope the past few seasons, the NFL is taking drastic measures trying to find solutions that will help in the…

Highschool sports, specifically football, are dangerous, and more so than they appear. In fact, Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is commonly thought to be caused by concussions and prevalent only in professional football, but recent studies show that even minor impacts, like those in high school football, are harmfull to the human brain.…

“Mommy, I want to be just like him. I want to wear a cool uniform just like him. And I want to throw and catch passes just like him.” These are the words of a young child watching professional sports, always wanting to grow up to be just like the professional athlete he is seeing. With professional sports players being such huge role models to kids these days, everything that a player does is watched over by young learning eyes. Kids see how they act, how they celebrate a touchdown, even… how they are hit. With concussions in youth football turning into such huge issues including safety and prevention the National Football League is one that has been stepping up to take its own changes. The NFL has always endorsed safety with youth programs and encouraging concussion prevention, but with football being such a physical sport it begs the question of, “Is it worth it.” With the NFL being one of the most prominent outlet to youth, the handling of issues such as concussion needs to be handled properly in order to send a positive message to youth.…

As a 10 year football player I have always made sure my safety was my number one priority when it came to playing in the games. Unfortunately my style of playing came with a price and throughout those years I received 4 concussions. Although I never had any suicidal thoughts or had any major head trauma I realized that the style of playing throughout my high school career was pretty ruthless. Even though the pace of the game in high school is nothing compared to the big leagues the amount of concussions that high school players are receiving are sky rocketing through the roof and is slowly starting to increase every year. This is where it all begins with concussions in high school and if you continue to play in college and get drafted into the NFL those number of concussions will only increase. Players in the NFL have said when it comes to concussions, it all starts with that very first concussion that you get in youth football. Anytime when an NFL player commits a violent illegal hit it is resulted in a…

Personally, I am a strong supporter of children playing any sport that is offered. With that being said, young lives are too precious to many people for us to lack in safety precautions, especially in a violent contact sport such as football. According to youthsportssafetyalliance.org, there are nearly 3 times as many catastrophic injuries per year in high school football as there are in collegiate level football. This number infers that high school football tends to be more dangerous, and for several reasons.…

Many people have argued that, “Should we ban high school football?” One of the main reason’s why we should outlaw the sport is due to head injuries, or injuries in general. Now granted, we cannot protect kids 24/7. Injuries in sports are just common things that occur. We can only do our best to prevent children from hurting themselves.…

It is true that high school athletes are less physically mature, and have less muscle mass and incomplete growth plates, and are more likely to get severely injured than college athletes. However, R. Dawn Comstock, who ran a study on high school and college football claims that “inexperienced athletic techniques also exacerbate their [high school football players] risk of injury.” She also says that “we have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports are one of the best ways to to encorporate excercise into their lives.” Dr. Cynthia LaBella adds that parents can help minimize the risk of injury by ensuring that their child maintains good physical condition year-round, making sure that they are properly coached on tackling and falling, and telling someone if they are injured, especially in the head. For this reason, she says that “the focus should be in…

I like to believe it’s too dangerous for teens to be playing it while in high school because to attain those injuries while you’re so young is not a great thing. NFL already have dealt with it, but imagine the teens with those problems like memory loss or worse. Imagine playing and your head gets hit so hard that you knock out and leads to permanent damage I don’t think that it’s fit for a teen to go through just because he was doing something he loved. That is why I say it is too dangerous to be playing that game in high school.…

Now that I look back at the whole situation, how would I have turned out if I hadn’t played football that day? What would I be doing right now? I guess I will never know. But one thing I did find out is, I love football. So with that being said, and going back to the saying: “You’ll never know what you will like until you try it. Than once you try it, you might end up loving it”. I’m a prime example. Fast forward 6 years later, I’m a 16 years old Sophomore, still playing football, and playing for Steinmetz College Prep in Chicago, Illinois. I’m a two year starter and will be starting Running Back my Junior year. My younger brother, Brandon, also plays. He played for the Brighton McKinley Bears for two years and will be playing his next four…

I do think the school board should adopt a new rule that requires every student to play at least one competitive sport in order to graduate from high school. There are many kids who dedicate themselves to a team sport who would not be able to “live” without it. I love swimming and synchronized swimming. I train 6 days a week and 2 Sundays a month. I know that it sounds like a lot but it is something I enjoy, so I have no problem in doing it. What happens to the other kids though? I mean, the kids who don’t think playing and participating in a sport is important. A sport is an athletic activity that requires skill or physical prowess and is often of competitive nature. A sport could also be used for diversion and as a pleasant pastime. With this, sports offer physical AND mental benefits.…
