90 minutes to make or break your season. The grass under your cleats when arriving at the pitch. Wind blowing through jerseys while sprinting to get the ball. The silky feel of your school colors on your sweaty skin. The thrill achieved by that one perfect kick straight into the feet of the waiting teammate right next to the goalie's box. The skill and precision that goes into one sport that the world goes crazy for. Imagine dribbling across the length of the pitch and passing the ball, waiting for that pass back to complete the two-touch the team has been practicing endlessly. The ball is coming straight at you at break-neck speed. It’s too high to stop with your feet, what do you do? You breathe, take a look at your coach who is chewing ferociously

The ball is yours now and obviously, the defenders on the opposing team can tell what is about to happen next. You can't run too far, already being this close to the box is straining it. The referee is giving you a look, you give the exact same one back until he looks away. You breathe and you go for it…You watch as your ball hits the corner of the net just grazing the goalie's glove clad fingertips. The whistle blows and you finally let that smile tear through your face. You hear fans whooping from the sidelines...but not exactly. There are only 9 people watching the game your mom and some more of the team’s parents. It’s only a JV game, but that does not change the fact that you scored THE FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON! That means for the rest of the season, all eyes are on you. Every pass you make, every goal you miss, what positions you play, every single thing you do under the criticizing eyes of fans, opposing teams, your team, your coach, especially your coach, every single person that sees you play mentally commenting on your plays, your off days too. This is great though you’re doing what you love and it’s that one escape from everything else.
