On February 7th, 2017 Betsy DeVos was confirmed as the Secretary of Education. Betsy is a billionaire from Michigan who has little to no experience with education. The only experience she has with education is the schooling that she had taken part of when growing up. She never experienced education in the role of a professional educator. The Secretary of Education doesn’t mean much to most people but this cabinet position touches and deals with the education that is given to our youth and future. DeVos also has no experience with the disabled. She stated that she was unfamiliar with the law that protects the students with disabilities. Electing Betsy is a huge concern for myself and many others. As a future educator, I know and understand the…

A child with disabilities is a major focus in today’s education. Achieving my Bachelors in Special Education, I need to be aware of the need to ensure appropriate education for all children with disabilities. “The education of children with disabilities is a top national priority. Our nation’s special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), sets high standards for their achievement and guides how special help and services are made available in schools to address their individual needs (National Dissemination)”. This is my biggest challenge. I feel with the right tools and help with administration; my job will guarantee a bright future for my students with disabilities. I came across a case, Irving Independent School District v. Amber Tatro. The findings of this case gave me some insight on the statues and limitations that I as an educator have to abide by. But it also gave me hope that we the educators have the right to make such access meaningful to handicapped children.…

On July 20, 2012, Caroline Winter published an article in Bloomberg Businessweek titled “Is Paid Sick Leave Good for Business” stating there is a group of women seeking a bill that would require companies to pay sick leave. This group is being led by feminist author Gloria Steinem. Cities such as San Francisco, Washing D.C., and Connecticut have implemented paid sick leave as a city ordinance but New York’s City Council Speaker, Christine Quinn has previously voted against and continues to oppose this request. Although it is a good policy, because she believes passing this bill that requires companies to pay sick leave will cause undue hardship especially in today’s volatile economy (Winter, 2012).…

I admire her for overcoming the obstacles she overcame to get where she at today. At an early age Rice topped her education. She worked next to former President George Bush as well as others.…

When I was first asked to Vote it was an easy choice for me. I was picking Donald Trump. He was a business man that could help America financially and could take us out of the national debt. However, the more I looked at Donald Trump and the way his outlook on things were, I started to notice that maybe he is not a good fit for our president. Based on the way he wants to face the issues of education, foreign policy, and immigration, compared to Hilary Clinton and her way to face the issues it is clear to me now that Hilary Clinton is a better choice for presidential office than Donald Trump.…

We have learned about how our country elects a new president. Things such as the primaries, the National Conventions, and the General election. Which fortunately, or unfortunately, we had the possibility of experiencing very recently. Although Donald Trump had won the most electoral votes, Secretary Clinton won the popular vote! This also relates to what we have studied. We learned that the first candidate who wins at least 270 electoral votes they automatically become the president elect. That means, even if one candidate doesn't win the popular vote, they can still win the…

Overall the decision by the United States to make paid maternity leave a necessity would help to work against the gender pay gap, prevent damage to new mothers, and the drop in birth rates amongst women in high paid positions. Along with these reasons are the moral reasons that come along with it and that we are one of only three other countries that do not protect maternal rights. Paid maternity leave is a necessity and should be considered an essential part of hiring any…

The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, or FMLA, as it is usually called is thought to be one of the most important pieces of legislation by President Clinton. Housed in the Wage and Hour Division’s section on the Department of Labor’s website, along with guidance about break time for nursing mothers, and special rules for returning reservists, FMLA is in good company with other policies composed to ensure one overall theme, that families are supported no matter the circumstance. Whether it is an illness, a birth, a returning military personnel readjusting to their homes, FMLA is a security net meant to uphold a family to support itself. The legislation itself “…entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, [yet] job-protected leave for specific family and medical reasons with no lapses in your employer provided health coverage under the same conditions one would have if they did not take leave (Dol.gov, 2015).…

In my own opinion, having no woman president in United States is caused by different factors and not because of a sole gender inequality. I believe the right candidate and the right time have not come yet. For century U.S. is run by men presidents I believe majority of Americans men or women are adapted to the traditional form of government to have a man president. President Obama, the first black president proves the gender equality in America. This means America is responding to change. I also believe religion has a big influence. A strong belief of some religions that men are the pillar of the house and which women should be side by side with men. Lastly, I believe there are not enough women in the political pipeline.…
