Exercises That Encourage Hip Movement
After the operation, your physiotherapist will be teaching you exercises you can do to get the hip moving. While you may be afraid to damaging your new hip, the less you use it, the longer your recovery period is going to be.
It will take at least three months for your hip to get to a stage that it is as versatile as your old one, and you must follow the physiotherapist's guide for adding new exercises a little at a time. Anything involving weight training, for example, should not be attempted for at least two months because it could damage the muscles that are rebuilding around the hip. Walking and static bike riding, however, can be tackled within a month of the hip replacement surgery. Of course, before adding any new exercises back into your life you should get the okay from your physiotherapist first.
