1.1 Introduction to the study

The study was conducted in HMT Machine Tool Limited which is a well known company from the past 5-6 decades. It is well known for its expertise performance in the industry

1.2 Objectives of the study
The study was conducted in order to:- 1. Understand the functions of an organization 2. The behavior of the organization with the employees. 3. Know how well the different departments coordinate with each other in order to complete their work properly. 4. Gain complete knowledge of the management operation. 5. Understand how well the theoretical concepts are applied into the working of the organization and how well decisions are being taken.

2.1 Industry profile
WHAT IS A MACHINE TOOL?
A machine tool is a powered mechanical device, used to fabricate metal components of machines by machining (selective removal of metal). A machine tool, is also known as the device which operates by itself other than by the power movement put in by humans.
Machining tool is equipment that cuts, shears, punches, presses, drills, rolls, grinds, sands or forms metal, plastic, or wood stock.

AN OVERVIEW:
India ranks 13th in production and 7th in the consumption of machine tools in the world. The country is set to become a key player in the global machine tools industry and is likely to see substantial high end machine tool manufacturing,even though China is coming up.
The Indian machine tools industry comprises of around 160 players in the organized sector and around 400 units in the small ancillary sector. Ten major Indian companies constitute almost 70 percent of the total production. The Government-owned Hindustan Machine Tools Limited(HMT)alone accounts for nearly 32 percent of machine tools manufactured in India.
