Spiritual Gifts are granted by the Holy Spirit as He wills. There are many gifts that are all granted by the same Spirit to benefit the body of Christ (1 Cor. 2:4, 7). However, when referring to either the Gifts or Fruits of the Spirit, consideration is needed to avoid confusing their meanings (Towns, p. 306). In addition, the gift of tongues and its relation to the baptism of the Spirit are highly debated upon. This essay will discuss biblical proofs and the questions surrounding these gifts, plus reveal the “perfect” reward in the end.…

Walter C. Kaiser Jr. does an excellent job providing a Reformed Perspective on Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Through his work I was able to see the connection between the Holy Spirit’s work in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of the Holy Spirit’s empowerment of Jesus’ followers. However, the main topic of discussion by Kaiser is whether there is one event of salvation—including the infilling of the Holy Spirit; or are there two different events—one for salvation and the other baptism of the Holy Spirit. In light of this, what I find most interesting is Kaiser’s discussion on a didactic approach to Scripture—meaning all of Scripture is to instruct us. The other option is portions of the bible, such as the book of Acts is simply an historical account rather than theological account. To my shock, Kaiser quotes on of my favorite theologians Gordon Fee who says, “What is merely narrated or described can never function in a normative way” (Brand 25). How dare you Fee! I believe that all of scripture, whether historical, narrative or instructive is to form our theology and understanding of God.…

Spiritual Gifts are gifts that are given to believers by God that enable them to complete the jobs that He has called them to perform. Spiritual gifts differ from the Fruit of the Spirit in that everyone can possesses each Fruit of the Spirit but God gives Spiritual Gifts according to your service in the church and in the body of Christ. You need to possess specific Spiritual Gifts in order to operate in specific ministries. Spiritual Gifts reflect your maturity level in the things of Christ. As you grow in Christ your Spiritual Gifts can multiply or change. I believe that Spiritual Gifts are the talents that God grants to each of His children. Some of the Spiritual Gifts that I possess are the gift of teacher, the gift of helper, the gift of discernment, and the gifts of exhortation and intercession. I have found that the more that I grow as I study God’s Word, the Spiritual Gifts that He gave to me tend to expand and they often times overlap. I think that the reason we are given Spiritual Gifts is so that we will have the tools that we need when we are performing the tasks that we have been charged with in order to build and edify the Kingdom of God. In my opinion, we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit once we have accepted Christ as our personal Savior. It is at this time when there is an identifiable change in our life. We no longer do the things that we used to do. Gradually we become less comfortable with living in and around sin so we seek to live a life like the life of Christ. Ewell says that some people insist that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit coincides with conversion. I believe this is true. According to Ewell and as scripturally referenced in I Corinthians 12-14 and Romans 12, Speaking in Tongues is a spiritual gift given to select people within…

Good morning everyone, I can’t remember that last time I was asked to speak not that I am complaining. Most of you know my family and I. For those of you that don’t I will give you a brief background. My name is Cassandra im 24 and the second to the oldest out of my siblings. I am currently in my second to last semester of my nursing program and on May 28, 2014 I will graduate with my bachelors in this field. So I can honestly say that I am blessed to have made it this far. I was asked to speak on strong impressions of the spirit. Henry B. Eyring stated, "A seed of faith is already planted in your heart. ... But, like a growing plant, it must be nurtured or it will wither. Frequent and heartfelt prayers of faith are crucial and need nutrients. Obedience to the truth you have received will keep the testimony alive and strengthen it. If you exercise faith, with the gift of the Holy Ghost, you will find that memories of other blessings will flood into your mind. If you begin to express gratitude for each of them, your prayer may take a little longer than usual. It is easy for us to become mechanical in our prayers of gratitude, often repeating the same words but without the intent to give our thanks as a gift of the heart to God." I find that as your testimony grows throughout the years you tend to have a glow about yourself and other people tend to notice it. As children and young adults we are exposed to numerous types of environments in which are very spiritual and help build our testimony. For example the young woman’s and the young means program teach us as young adults the paths that we can take to help us grow spiritually. Youth conference is a great experience I can remember countless number of times I told my parents that I didn’t want to go home because I had such a great time around kids my age that shared the same beliefs as me. I learned that God’s love is for everyone, and it is infinite. He knows how to communicate…
