Homecoming Essay
Celebrating 25 years of consolidation between two historic schools Clark College and the
Atlanta University will take place the last week of October for homecoming and this won’t be one to miss! One of the nation’s biggest homecoming weekends will be even bigger this year as
Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University hold activities during the same weekend,
October 25-27.
The two schools, along with Spelman College, will come together on three homecoming events that are usually held separately. The parade, step show and hip hop concert. This is the first time all three schools have joined forces in this manner for homecoming.
My focus will be mainly on the hip hop concert. The buzz for the hip hop concert was crazy. Hundreds of people lined up outside of Forbes arena as if they were giving away free tuition. There was so much energy and hostility outside because everybody from all school wanted to get into this show knowing it would be a packed house. Student’s bum rushed the door, people got trampled, and it was just pure mayhem outside of the concert. The inside was packed from top to bottom and students were on their worst behavior. As different artist performed the students boo’d some artists off the stage, threw miscellaneous items at them on stage, and many other vulgar acts. This is not a good representation of our schools and the way the students acted towards the artist may cause us to not have any more events for homecoming at all since folks don’t know how to act. As some of the bigger name artists hit the stage the students calmed down. I got to interview one of the opening acts who must have been good because he did not get boo’d of the stage. He goes by the name of D’Lyric. He told me how he enjoyed the crowd’s energy and participation. He says “Maybe because I’m a student at CAU
I get more love because im branded here”. I agree with him because he was one of the only opening acts who actually finished

When the month of August rolls around each year, football fans alike rejoice, because a new season is about to roll around. In the South, we celebrate four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and football. Whether it’s by seeing shirts or by seeing flags fly on vehicles, most people in the South know when football arrives. Unlike A Christmas Memory, where Capote believes traditions will die off after a period of time, college football has continued its trend in the south for over 100 years. Maybe it’s the stadium entrances that send shivers down the spine, the tailgating that turns into an all-day event or the rivalries that can divide family, friends and co-workers; whatever a person’s tastes are, college football in the South has it all.…

My dad and I arrived at the BMO Harris Bradley Center with four hours until the show began. When arrived at the center we were met by my friends Serafina, Serena, and Katrina. They were the other people who were chosen to perform. As soon as we were all there we were immediately escorted backstage to a space behind the stage that was being used as a makeshift green room. When we arrived in the green room we were immediately fitted for orange jumpsuits and oversized black ,”RESIST,” shirts by a lady named Katie. Katie then began to explain the plan to us and a group of children from the School of Rock who would also be performing with us. We would learn the dance, go through soundcheck, eat dinner, watch a part of the show, and then finally perform. We learned the surprisingly simple dance in a short amount of time, the dance consisted of step-clapping, marching, ripping off our jumpsuits to reveal our black shirt, and freestyle dancing. Everyone felt the most self conscious about freestyle dancing, we didn’t really know what to do. Katie saw that this was an issue and said, “ Roger just wants you guys to have fun and really get into the music, the crazier the better, and if you don’t know what to do get as much space as you can between your feet and the ground.” After hearing that we could just jump we all felt a little…

Due to the amount the school advertised the game, it all depended on the school our team was going to play and the importance. For the Gonzaga game I realized that the whole student section was full meanwhile for their senior night game against Portland it only had a few students. I was pleased by the idea that finally the students demonstrated school spirit to go attend the basketball game, but they had to bribe them to go by offering free stuff and food or else they would have not attended like the other games. On the other hand, I did not like the idea of how some people were acting because I could hear fans from the opposing team talking bad about our players. Instead of telling the people to politely stop I chose to stay quiet because I did not want to start an argument with them.…

Homecoming week was full of exciting activities, games, and sports! Events were happening everyday during this week. The week kicked off on Monday the 26th and it started with Dress like a Pirate day! Not only was Monday full of fun, but it continued through the week. Tuesday was comfy cozy, and we definitely brought out the jammies. Wednesday consisted of a ton of twins, because who doesn’t want one. Thursday brought some interesting throwbacks, with people dressing from their favorite time periods or even as their younger selves. Today the classes had assigned colors to wear, unless you were one of the lucky seniors who wore a toga! The Freshman wore red, Sophomores wore white and Juniors wore blue.…

Sure does take a lots of courage to get up on stage and perform in front of a huge audience but the talented students of Texas State didn’t let that stop them. There was wide variety of talent shown at the show, from dancing to singing. One act that really stood out to me was a group that danced to Korean artist Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. The song has catchy melody and even though you won’t understand the lyrics you…

At first glance the concert seemed to be fairly disorganized, like more of a house party than a legitimate concert.
