The issue of homelessness in modern times is people act like they don’t care. They walk or drive by and do not think about how they live or how it is without money, food, a home, or family who don’t care about them because they are poor. People should care a little more and think “What if that was me?”. To understand homelessness, one must examine the issues that lead to these bad outcomes. Kids become homeless for a variety of reasons which include running away from home, being abandoned by parents or guardians, and aging out of state or foster care. Without resources, the streets can become one of the only options for homelessness. Researchers find it troubling that in a country of great wealth and in a city of great wealth, there are so many people who are in such desperate situations, sleeping in homeless shelters or on city streets, in cars, in parks and on beaches. We see our negative attitude toward the homeless by saying “they are probably drug addicts or alcoholics, so they brought this situation on themselves.”, but the homeless also has families. Families like yours and mine who had a job loss, family illness, or some sort of misfortune that led to their homelessness. This is the kind of stuff we need to think about when we see homeless people. They don’t have the fancy cars like we do, the big houses or food. If people every day would pitch in on helping the shelters or just donating a little money, we could help these people get well fed, a good shelter for a few nights. Maybe even a home built by Habitat for Humanity. Most people look at it like “well we help but they will never change”. That’s not all true. Donating the tiniest bit of money could change a homeless person life dramatically. Despite the problem homelessness is a social issue which is greatly ignored. Communities seek to just remove the homeless from their areas rather than trying to solve the problem. The homeless
