According to Merriam-Webster dictionary; sex is any physical contact between two individuals involving stimulation of the genital organs of at least one. Hooking-up could be anything from kissing to intercourse, usually occurring with someone you are not emotionally attached to. Friends with benefits are a friend with whom one has occasional sexual relations without a commitment or dating arrangement. Sex is different from both hook-ups and friends with benefits. Usually with sex, strong feelings are involved. Love and attraction are generally the sexual feelings. Not all the time will there be a romantic connection, like hook-ups or friends with benefits. Pleasure is usually the component of sexual feelings. The word sexual intercourse
is the sexual contact between individuals penetration, especially the insertion of a man’s erected penis into a woman’s vagina, typically culmination in orgasm and the ejaculation of semen. Men that usually reach an orgasm during sex are 75 percent. Most women need foreplay or stimulation, only 29 percent of woman orgasm from vaginal intercourse. The average man will lose his virginity at the age of 16 and a female at the age of 17. About one of ten married couples, 12 percent, say they regularly sleep alone. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, an average woman between the ages of 20 and 59 has had four sex partners and men have about seven during their lifetime. Many cultures believe that sex is evil, unless sex is performed by a married couple. Along with having sex, many consequences arrive with it. Sex has become part of our everyday world, and the rate of young teenagers having sex is rising. Sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an infection passed during sexual intercourse. Some STIs are gonorrhea, Chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis. Young teenagers are having sex before they are even taught in school about the penalty that comes with sexual intercourse. A young person having sex at a young age can also affect them emotionally. Later in life they may feel shame, guilt, and remorse. Christianity is one religion that teachers having sex before marriage is immoral. Another outcome of sex is pregnancy. If a person is financially unstable, too young or not wanting a child, sex should be protected. Sex should be because of love, attraction, and meaningful.
More women prefer “dating” where as more men prefer “hooking-up”.
Dating is known as the male asking the women out to dinner, maybe after the date the couple will have intimate sexual activity. When dating someone the two people know each other before being sexually attracted. On the other end is hooking-up, also known as casual sex. This involved two people that may briefly know each other or complete strangers that engage in sexual encounters. Hooking-up can be anything from kissing to sexual intercourse. Hooking-up usually occurs when alcohol is involved. There is no future commitment or relationship with a hook up, except the one night. Hook-ups usually happen after a flirtatious vibe is set off. According to Science Daily in 2010; 41 percent of women preferred traditional dating and only 20 percent of men did. Women that preferred hook-ups were four percent and 17 percent of men preferred hook-ups. A woman’s fear with a hook-up is she will become emotionally attached with a partner that is not interested. Men fear that the partner may become emotionally attached, in a hook-up relationship, even though it is supposed to be commitment free. Most hook-ups are focused on college age students, but not limited too. All ages from adolescents to adult hood engage in
hook-ups. Friends with benefits are slightly different from hook-ups.
Although both hook-ups and friends with benefits most likely do not have a lasting romantic relationship that can both be considered “casual sex”. Friends with benefits is sexually involved with a friend, but without being emotionally attached. Friends with benefits are often known as a “booty call” or “fuck-buddies”. With a total of 125 undergraduates, about 60 percent have has a friend with benefits at some point in their life. Approximately 35 percent of people that had sex with a friend stayed friends, but no longer have sexual relations, 28 percent continue a friends with benefits relationship, 25 percent end their friendship completely, and nine percent state a romantic relationship. There are both pros and cons to having a friend with benefit. A few pros for friend with benefits; it is easy to call your friend to come over, there is not a lot of drama involved, and it is a safe place for experiment. A few cons that are involved with friends with benefits are it can ruin a friendship, making sure there are friendship limitations, it could be a barrier from meeting new people, and one partner may be
heartbroken. Sex, hooking-up, and friends with benefits are consisting of some type of relationship. It could extend from never talking to the person again or having a committed romantic relationship. Although my personal opinion, I do not believe in hook-ups and friends with benefits, if that is what makes a person happy, then that is none of my business. I do think the reason the age of teenagers having sex is increasing is due to social media. There are many different websites and apps that are easily accessible to young population. A few popular “hook-up” apps that are at the reach of a teenager are Kik, Tinder, Skout, and Hot or Not. This is the reason we are considered the “hook-up culture”. Overall, I think that hook-up and friends with benefits both fit under the category. I think sex is something that should be taken more serious then people take it.
