Watching movies like these are the same as riding a roller coaster or bungee jumping. The thrill of not knowing what could happen drives people to do these insane activities. King explains, “Which is not to say that a really excellent horror movie may not surprise a scream out of us at some point, the way we may scream when the roller coaster twists through a complete 360” (King 410). King compares a horror movie to roller coasters because these people take on the thrill of these essentially alarming activities. People do not like horror films the same as a person, not liking to ride roller coasters. The thrill is too much for some, but others dare to take it on. People enjoy feeling the adrenaline. Adrenaline can become a drug to people enjoying the fight or flight response. People acquire a sudden urge of energy. King states, “To show that we can, that we are not afraid, that we can ride this roller coaster” (King 410). The words “we can” and “not afraid” can be thoughts that people receive when they experience adrenaline. People enjoy the feeling and would like to have the feeling again. Feeling the suspense from the main character running away from the killer is the fight or flight response.
