On page 3 I would ask them to predict what will happen when honeybee and horsefly both wanted the same flower. On page 5 I would ask them what would happen to horsefly and honeybee because they each lost a wing. Then on page 12 I would bring up how that the word “Drat” has been used alot by horsefly and honeybee. I would ask them what happens to them in the story that makes them use that word. Then I would ask them to brainstorm what they think it means and clarify. On page 22, when they escaped the bullfrog and went back to the same flower from earlier, I would ask them to make a prediction which connects back to the first one. The first time horsefly and honeybee wanted the flower they fought but by the end of the story they shared it which shows the resolution that comes with teamwork.
After reading, I would ask questions to reinforce the main idea of the story. I would ask that if horsefly and honeybee did not work together to fly away do they think the bullfrog would have ate them and why. I would also ask why did horsefly and honey bee shared the flower at the end of the story but fought for it in the beginning. This would make the students think about what happened in the story that made horsefly and honeybee realize that sharing and teamwork is
