Update 3.30.17: James has had difficulty in this treatment focus this reporting period. James assaulted his housemate and local law enforcement contacted, but did not result in an arrest of Mr. Knutsen. Since this incidents, James has been working on self regulation and skills on how to de-escalate in the moment, for example, taking a time out in his room, “office”, art, deep breathing, and contacting the office.

He states that there was no follow up interview and is not really clear on what happened with that job. He states that he does want to seek employment and continues to go on weekly outings with his job coach.

James assaulted a housemate this reporting period over a misunderstanding over ownership of ice-cream. James and this particular housemate are very close, and this incident came as a surprise. The two were able to come to an understanding about the assault and James apologized to JR for his behavior. The two appear to be back on friendly terms.
Intervention Guidelines: Effective intervention requires a discussion of expectations and agreement by James. James seems to respond well to being validated for appropriate behaviors as well as having a part in decision-making processes involving his welfare. Simple and gentle redirection with reasonable explanations appears to produce results with James. It is best to intervene with James once he has had time to consider options and choices. When stressed, James needs to have the opportunity to process his frustrations with a neutral party; as previously noted, pitch and tone are triggers for James, effective de-escalation must include monitoring ones pitch and tone. He needs support around being assertive in communicating his needs and wants. James appreciates staff that are pleasant and kind to him and who motivate him with a cheery voice and a sweet
