How Are House Slaves Treated In The 1800s

From 1619 to 1865 blacks were treated as if they were no human but objects. They worked long hard days with no pay and not even enough food to fill their stomachs. The true definition of slave is a civil relationship in which one person has absolute power over the life, fortune, and liberty of another. Slavery first began when the first group of slaves were brought to Virginia in 1619. As they arrived they were to work in cotton fields during any type of weather. From early morning to late at night picking cotton. Back then there were 2 type of slaves. There were house slaves and field slaves. The house slaves stayed inside cleaning and helping the master or his wife with their children. Slavery mainly started because there was a serious need for labor in the south. It was a national enterprise but the economic and political center of gravity during the U.S.’s
If you were African or African- American you were treated horrible. Any slave guilty of arson, rape of a white woman, or conspiracy to rebel were immetialy put to death. Even though the white men were raping their slave and even impregnating them they got no charge because blacks were simply property not humans. Overseers were paid the most and treated slaves the worse. Usually if a slave reported to their master that they were treated unfair they would be fired because the masters would be protective of their property. There were slaves convinced by a master to manage the other slave throughout the plantation they were called drivers. They were hated by other slaves because they felt as if they were better than others. With that being the driver would most likely be beaten by other slaves. There were also other slaves called Domestic Slaves. They were the slaves that lived in better quarter and got better food and the rest.
