Basswood is selected because it has a good strength due to its close-grains on the micro level.
Joining: the pieces of basswood are glued together using a lot of glue types with specific pressures for the preparation of every block based on its function and location. The figures are actually carved in pieces including the head, body, legs and tail of the horse. First the head is carved, and then attached and blended into the body, and likewise with the rest of the parts. As for the carving process, it can take 3 days up to 3 weeks depending on the intricacy of the figure design. In some designs, the carousel is intended to imitate the wildlife with its theme background representing the jungles. On such carousel, the design of the animals will not be restricted to …show more content…
However, the main concern is about assembly and part selection for the design considerations and limitation.
Electric motor: It is usually purchased with its designed efficiency and horsepower.
Gears: The constraint for gears is about the transmission ratio and speed reduction, and it can purchased standardly.
Bearings & Screws: Those parts are manufactured in a different factory and likewise with the gears, they are selected based on the constraint of the design.
Metal pole: It is purchased as is based on the required diameter with considerations of the design. It can undergo cutting processes if the length was higher than the design required.
Environmental considerations: All the parts used are usually environment friendly, as water colors are used for coloring and paining, also vegetable oils and vinegar can be used for smoothening the surface. Also, the maintenance is done continuously on the parts so that there will be no need to re-shape any piece to minimize the waste and the cost of the
