Abraham Lincoln did not deserve to be assassinated because he abolished slavery. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all slaves meaning he was non-violent. In the letter, Emancipation Proclamation, it states, “all persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free” (Lincoln, 1). His role as leader helped create the emancipation proclamation and the gettysburg address. In the biography, Abraham Lincoln, it states, “As to slavery, Lincoln waited until after the victory at Antietam, when it would have real meaning as a war measure, to issue his Emancipation Proclamation. Later, at Gettysburg, he gave the war its universal meaning” (Encyclopedia, 1).
