In their workplaces, they acquired new roles such as grinders, machine operators, inspectors, crane operators and assemblers. In the past, women performed lesser roles such as sales and clerks. In war industries, the number of women rose to 20% from 5%. In other industries the scope was higher, they constituted to 35% in the rubber industry, 33% in leather industries and 37% in optical goods. Training schools were also established inside and outside industries to ensure that women acquired new skills. Women began to conform to a ‘do your part’ standard.
In the agricultural sector, there was a decrease of agricultural workers in 1918. A program aimed at recruiting women was established by the Farm Bureau, to register numerous women in the agricultural sector. In addition, about 500,000 women moved from the domestic service to other sectors during this period. To deal with the growing demand of labor, women also formed voluntary organizations that placed and distributed women on different
