living off the land. At one point chris left his flooded car with more supplies that takes tons of courage to leave everything behind in his car. “He told us about abandoning his car, about burning all his money. (Krakauer 30)” this would be near impossible for someone to do, leaving the car was taking him a step closer to really roughing it and burning the money was leaving the past behind and starting over because chris “claimed he didn't need money. (Krakauer 30)” Chris really just wanted to live off the land to the fullest yeah making money here and there but not to rely on money.
Chris wanted to live life to the fullest with no tie downs, “it is experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest… (Krakauer 37)” Chris was just trying to live life to the fullest to find who Chris really was, also was sick of living the same life everyday, that's why McCandless went into the wild.
In the 2000 film “The Beach,” the main character, Richard, goes to this hidden beach in Thailand when a map was given to him. There were only about 12 people that knew about this paradise away from the whole world. Richard made the comment, “I just feel like everyone tries to do something different, but you always wind up doing the same damn thing.” This quote relates to McCandless story because he was sick of the conformity of everyday life and Chris also believed that people were okay doing the samething everyday in life because it was safe. This Christopher McCandless should be admired for this courage to go into the wild he may have died but at least he lived his life to the fullest with no
regrets.
