Who Is Chris Mccandless Adventurous In Into The Wild
In the book Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless gets portrayed as adventurous. He is adventurous in the way that he just left his family on a whim, and started traveling on his cross-country adventure. “I got the impression that this Alaska escapade was going to be his last big adventure” (Krakauer, 1996, pg 66) said Wayne Westerberg when describing how Chris talked about his then future trip plans. This shows that he was planning this big adventure for a long time and the Alaskan adventure would be the last big advent for a while. Or at least it was his last planned big adventure for a while as he was probably burnt out from adventuring for the last two and a half years. This is important as it shows Chris was too adventurous
and had burnt himself out. Another way that proves Chris was adventurous was when he had just arrived at the bus on his Alaskan odyssey; When he was still hubris he scratched this into the wall, “Two years he walks the earth. No phone, No pool, No pets, No cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. [...] Now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. [...] Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the great white north.” (Krakauer, 1996, pg 163) This is an interesting statement to scratch into the bus because it shows that he is excited to finally be on this adventure that he has hyped up in his head during the past two years of adventures. But now that Chris is here, his inner adventurous self is racing ahead of getting situated, and wanting to start exploring and do highlight activities. Chris’s urge for big activities shows that he is adventurous as adventurous people are always looking for a new situation or activities to fulfill their desires.
