In the book, To Build a Fire, by Jack London, Chris mirrors the protagonist, for instance, both men ignored the advice about the winter weather in Alaska, and they both die for being unprepared. The man in To Build a Fire, only had one goal, just to meet up with his friends, as oppose to Chris.
