Hernan was known to be an adventurous and enthusiastic young man.
During his youth, it was said that he was often a troublemaker and very rebellious and mischievous to his parents. Hernan is now known as an explorer and conqueror of the Aztec Empire.
It has been said that Hernan has been to the University of Salamanca, but he eventually quit before finishing or that he may have failed his courses.

After the successful conquer of Cuba, Cortes remained in Cuba as second in command to Velazquez.
After about 7 years, Hernan became once again restless. Around that same time, there had been some reports about Yucatan Peninsula. He thought it would be the perfect opportunity he has been waiting for.
Velazquez helped fund for the expedition for Cortes, and within a few months, Cortes had 11 ships, 508 fighting men, 100 sailors, 200 indigenous slaves, and 16 horses.
But, as Cortes began to set sail, Velazquez quickly arrived and tried to cancel the expedition, with fear that Cortes will get glory for his discoveries.
Cortes ignored Velazquez and commanded his own expedition to Mexico against Velázquez’s orders. He reached the Mexican coast on February 1519.
Before going onto the Aztec Empire, Cortes established a town with an independent government. He then sent one ship to Spain with all of the treasure he collected so far, and he sank the other 10 ships so that way, the soldiers loyal to Velazquez wouldn’t return.
