After Everyman gets freaked out about Death coming to take him, Everyman went to go seek out Confession, which is a character in Everyman. The reason why Everyman went to seek out Confession was because Everyman knew that he had to confess and ask for forgiveness or Everyman would be going to hell. Confession states, “Ask God mercy, and he will grant truly” (ETEXT). “Confession represents man’s best opportunity for salvation, since acknowledging Everyman’s sins and asking God for forgiveness is an important element of Catholicism (“Everyman”). This statement is very accurate because if Everyman did not have Confession as a friend, most likely Everyman would be going to hell for not being on the right path with the Lord. Confession guided Everyman to take the steps of confessing to God. “I was also expecting him to beg forgiveness, or at least apologize for whatever sins he has committed. Instead, Everyman asks for his vices to be wiped clean” (Bradford). Readers might have been wondering why Everyman did not come out and give the readers a short of list of the bad deeds that he did. The readers might pick up on how Everyman did not have to give the readers a short list of his bad deeds because God already knew his bad deeds. It might have been a good idea to give the readers some list of his bad deeds so that the readers can have a better understanding of what kind of lifestyle that Everyman was living. When trying to learn about Jesus and the love He has for the humans He created, it is not always the easiest to comprehend. The author of Everyman broke the story down into three sections which is not serving God, praying to God and asking for mercy and forgiveness, and presenting an individual’s good deeds before the Lord. As Christians, they should help those who do not believe in God to understand that serving God is a main priority because Jesus paid it all by dying on the cross for every individual. When individuals pray to God for forgiveness, individuals should not just mean the prayer because that individual is forced to, but because that individual means the prayer deep down in their heart. Good deeds are important because as individual live their lives day to day, individuals do want to portray stealing, but perhaps helping an elderly person carry their groceries. The author knew how to describe death to the readers when an individual has not accepted Jesus. The readers may have sensed that the author had a lifestyle like Everyman and the author took a leap of faith by praying to God for his forgiveness and accepting Jesus into his heart. The author portrayed two decisions when it came to death, either an individual goes to heaven or hell. Many factors are contributed throughout Everyman, but the main focus is to not let worldly possession take over an individual’s life and to let God be control of
