World War One, also known as the Great War, began in Europe and lasted from July 28th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918. The war pulled in all the big economic countries. The war consisted of two opposing alliances: the Allies (consisted of the French 3rd Republic, the Russian Empire and the United Kingdom of Ireland and Great Britain) against the Main Powers of Austria-Hungary and Germany. Even though Italy was a member of the Triple Alliance alongside Austria-Hungary and Germany, they did not join the Central Powers. These alliances were redone and expanded as more nations were involved in the war: Japan, Italy and the United States sided with the Allies, on the other hand the Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers side.
