How Did Jeremiah Influence The Poor
Performance Assessment - End of Year

Jeremiah was an Old Testament Prophet. He was around during sometime in 600 B.C. His home could be found in the Southern Kingdom of Judah. The Israelites were not acknowledging the laws of God in their hearts. In addition they were boasting about their wealth and power and tormenting the poor and weak. Jeremiah came to them and told them to start treating each other with kindness and to stop worshiping false Gods. The people did not listen to Jeremiah and were cruel to him. They mocked, denounced, abused and imprisoned him. Despite all the people harsh cruelties, Jeremiah continued preaching God’s word. Jeremiah ~ no matter how hard he tried ~ could not get the people’s attention. Therefore he used something

He was assassinated for his faith on Monday March 24th 1980. He maintained a simple lifestyle and was a popular preacher. He never stopped paying attention to the needs of the poor and weak. He often gave up his time and wealth to help those in need. He did this so much in fact that people called him a workaholic in a cassock! However the political and emotional features of San Salvador started to change. Oscar Romero was denounced by the press, attacked by the wealthy Romans, harassed by the security officers and contradicted by his colleagues. Thirty five years after his assassination he was declared a martyr of the church because he was killed due to his faith and love. Finally he was beatifies a saint on May 23rd …show more content…
They have this in common because Jeremiah tells them to keep the city and the people the way God made them. On the other hand Oscar Romero tells them not to break God’s laws and commandments. Another thing that the two have in common is that they both maintain very simple lifestyles. The reason I say this is because kept his simple home in Judah instead of getting a big house in Israel. Oscar Romero however kept living in his local hospital instead of getting a big house with the fellow catholic leaders. He also never boasted about himself with being Archbishop. I could become “a light in the dark world” by following God’s laws and accomplishing as many works of mercy as I can. I could do this by feeding the hungry ~taking up food collections ~, giving alms to the poor ~ donating my old clothes and toys ~, and visiting the sick ~ going and spending time with elders in my local nursing home ~. What I mean by following God’s laws is making sure I follow his commandments and act like Jesus would. I could do this by talking to someone who seems sad, helping a sibling, friend or classmate, and just saying “hi!” to a stranger because you never know what kind of day they might be

Jeremiah is the prophet of the old testament that I choose. He lived in the southern Kingdom of Judah and was alive about 600 BC before Jesus was born. He spread the message that all people were equal and that the people of Israel should worship God and never worship strange gods. He tried to explain to them that God loved them and would protect them, but the people of Israel didn’t listen. He continued preaching the word of God and telling people that God was good in all ways.…

“Romero spent his first two and a half decades of his ministerial career as a parish priest and diocesan secretary in San Miguel” ("Archbishop Oscar Romero.", 2004). Although Romero would’ve liked to continue his studies and pursue a doctorate, in 1944 he had to make his way back to El Salvador. There had been a shortage of priests and were in need of his assistance. It was also during this time that he began “preaching and speaking on the local radio”. Romero knew there were people who didn’t feel welcome in the church. These people didn’t feel worthy of attending church with those who were of higher status than they were. As a solution, Romero was able to have his Sunday sermons on certain radio stations for those who felt unwelcomed in the church ("Archbishop Oscar Romero: A Bishop for the New Millennium", 2012; Brockman, 1984). This wasn’t a common thing for a priest to be doing during this…

Óscar Romero took a stand in history in more ways than one. He was opposed to many things such as, assassinations, poverty, social injustice, and torture, and he did not have a problem speaking up to address these issues. Óscar Romero was chosen to be Archbishop for San Salvador in 1977, as a “safe pair of hands, someone who would not rock the boat.” (Need to cite) Just a while after Romero had become Archbishop, his dear friend Rutilio Grande was killed. This caused Romero to take a stand beginning with him saying, “If they have killed him for what he did, then I too have to walk the same path.” As well, six other priests were assassinated and it was these events that made him realize he needed to become the “voice of the voiceless.”…

In this scripture God was furious that Jews were worshiping other gods instead of him. It is shown Jeremiah was a prophet who forewarned the Jews to stop lighting incense in name of other gods and worshipping them. God even went as far to threaten the Jews with famine, war and death even then the Jews did not listen. The Jews mock, threaten and imprison the prophet continually for approximately 40 years. Until his prophecy of what god will do would came true, when Nebuchadnezzar defeats the Jews. After this the temple is destroyed the city is set to fire. Jews are left with two choices stay in Jerusalem under Babylonian rule or flee to Egypt. The Jews consult Jeremiah who say god would forgive them if they stay in Jerusalem under Babylonian rule and they would flourish as people but if they went to Egypt they will be punished and…

After presenting his objections, God confirmed Jeremiah in his mission. The confirmation in Jer 1: 7-8 has may components. God reject Jeremiah’s objections by saying: “Do not say, I am only a boy” (Jer 1:7). In other words, the arguments given by Jeremiah to avoid his mission to be a prophet were insufficient. Jeremiah’s mission becomes more explicit. The Lord says to Jeremiah: “for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you” (Jer 1: 7). Walter Vogels, P.B, emphasizes the significance of the classics used in this passage of the verbs which express mission, for instance “to go, to send, and you shall speak whatever I command you.” He recognizes that is a mission of the prophet, so it is a mission of…

    * 1977 He was made Archbishop of El Salvador, a 'safe' appointment, someone who would maintain the status quo. Within three weeks this had changed. The Church was entering into a time of persecution because of new ideas which were beginning to be talked about and acted upon by those working with and for the poor. Their talk of justice threatened the way of life of the rich and powerful. On 12th March a radical priest and friend of Oscar’s, Father Rutilio Grande, was brutally murdered in Aguilares. He had been living in poverty alongside landless peasants, believing this is what Jesus would have done. Romero was shocked and decided to act. He ordered three days of mourning and a funeral mass in the cathedral, despite advice to the contrary. Further actions followed.…
