Due to Lorenzo's inheritance of knowledge it lead for the the title of Lorenzo the Magnificent. Lorenzo was bilingual fluent in many subjects and languages that included : Greek, Latin and philosophy. He acquired his talent in many languages by his strict lessons with teachers, humanists and statesmen. Lorenzo was well-educated, which allowed for the him to have a brilliant mind well-informed in many languages, subjects, county sports and the arts.
The Medici were a large, wealthy, and political family who ruled in the 13th century. In Florence, Lorenzo’s grandfather Cosimo de’ Medici, was the noblest and most respected family member. Cosimo was a good role model to his grandson, he showed Lorenzo how to lead the city of Florence when it came to be his time. Cosimo built the first public library called the Dominican Monastery of San Marco in Florence. Cosimo influenced Lorenzo to become be a better ruler by allowing him to join the decree,(citation)a formal and authoritative order, at a young age. By giving his grandson special treatment, Lorenzo saw the insight in what happens in the cento, which is the senate composed of 100 members. Piero de’Medici influenced Lorenzo’s political career by allowing him to be an assistant to his father’s business affairs. Piero di Cosimo de’ Medici, otherwise known as the Gouty of Florence, was the son of Cosimo and the father of Lorenzo. Piero supplied Lorenzo with the best education possible with well educated tutors that included: Cristoforo Landino, Gentile d’ Urbino and Marsilio Ficino (Scionti 321). When Piero provided his son with the best possible education it allowed for Lorenzo to allow for significant events to occur; causing him to be the successful patron we know as today. Lucretia de Medici was Lorenzo’s mother and the most accomplished woman of her age. Lucretia known as the patroness of learning is known in Florence for her poetry. Lucretia influenced Lorenzo to have a passion for the arts and poetry (Roscoe 11:464). The people in Lorenzo’s family allowed for him to be influenced in his career. Lorenzo was born into a wealthy, political family he gained a higher status when he married a member of the Orsini family. In 1469, Lorenzo was married to Clarice Orsini to be connected to powerful family of Rome when he married. During the late 1400, Lorenzo and Clarice had nine children together allowing for them to live on the legacy of the Medici family. Some may only know a few of his children due to them dying due to prematurity. Lorenzo’s children that lived to be significant in the Medici family included Lucrezia, first daughter born in August 1470, Piero de’Medici, ‘il Fatuo’ first son born in February 1472, Maddalena de’ Medici born July 1473, Giovanni di Lorenzo otherwise known as Pope Leo X born in December 1475, and Giuliano di Lorenzo de’ Medici, Duke of Nemours born March 1479 (Funch 9). The people in the Medici family allowed for him to increase his learning in the arts and education.
There was many events that contributed to Lorenzo’s life in the political career. In 1457, Cristoforo Landino was appointed the tutor for Piero and Lorenzo for their knowledgeable youth. In 1465 when Lorenzo was 16, Cosimo died allowing for him to take more responsibility in government. In the year of 1469, Lorenzo was married to Clarice Orsini to be connected to powerful family of Rome there, he gained for a higher political family by marrying a member of Orsini. On December 7, 1469, Lorenzo took control of Florence at the age of 20 due to his father’s death. Following Piero’s death during the years 1469 through 1472, Lorenzo looked to enrich the family church. After working to enrich the stability with family. The Medici family made agreement with Pope Sixtus for Medici to handle finances, allowing for Lorenzo to hold many festivals and made immense with the pope which was not accepted. In the early 1470s, Lorenzo allowed for many accomplishments for Florence allowing to be loved by citizens, make new enemies as well as alliances and for it to be a carefree city. His accomplishments did not last for long allowing for the Pazzi Conspiracy for rivalry between the Medici family and Sixtus. This rivalry caused for war on Florence causing for Lorenzo to take initiative and protect the city by going to Naples to ask for King Ferrante for help saving Florence. Posterior to the end of the rivalry,Lorenzo tried to turn his life around from political structure to the arts and education field. He helped the education department by donating money to the University of Florence and set up a school to help others. Lorenzo not only helped by influencing artists by being a patron to talented artist including painter Andrea del Verrocchio, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and helping the people who he could not help by providing them jobs including Filippo Lippi and Giuliano da Maino. Due to his rule, he caused for many simplification in goverment. In 1480, a new constitution was created to simplify the structure of the Florentine executive council to be of a council of seventy. The council of seventy changed the goverment to be a tyranny allowing for the prosperity of Florence to grow due to banking and commerce, Then on April 9, 1492 at the age of 43 we lost a successful man who caused change to the goverment and for arts and education to strive.
Lorenzo accomplished many significant events through his lifetime including to be a ruler, be a member of the Platonic Academy and be a patron to many well-known artists. Lorenzo ruled Florence, Italy in 1453 through 1492. At the time of his rule he was loved by the citizens, due giving them large amounts of grain in times of famine. He incorporated his love of arts by improving relation between neighbors, increase reputation, and population in Florence. As a result of his brilliant mind and high education, Lorenzo was a member of the Platonic Academy. The Academy was a group of scholars in the mid-fifteenth century in Florence to discuss philosophy and classics. Lorenzo accomplished many significant events in his lifetime although, he is well known for being a patronage of the arts. Lorenzo mentored many famous artist that influence modern art today, Some of the famous artists include painter Andrea del Verrocchio, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Botticelli. Due to Lorenzo’s funding, these artists could put their work in museums. Lorenzo's significant accomplishments helped many including citizens and artist and allowed for him to strengthen his brilliant memory.

The Pazzi Conspiracy started when Pope Sixtus IV wanted to overthrow the Medici due to expanding. So,on Easter the pope got his accomplish to plan on killing the Medici brothers instead,only Giuliano de Medici was killed and Lorenzo only left with a scratch (Hancock 31). Based on previous events with Lorenzo as a leader the Florentines supported him in the Pazzi Conspiracy. resulting in a tragic loss of 270 killed, banished, or imprisoned (Hancock 31). Sixtus excommunicated Lorenzo and the Florentines therefore they declared war and allied with King Ferrante of Naples and troops to invade Tuscany. In the battle, Lorenzo offered to give himself up as a scapegoat to allow peace for the citizens of Florence. In Naples, he presented himself to King Ferrante. The King was impressed with Lorenzo actions that he surrendered war with Florence which allowed for Pope Sixtus to make a peace offering with Lorenzo, the Pazzi Conspiracy was a major drawback in Lorenzo’s life. He also caused for the Renaissance to end start to being more in culture than wealth caused for the Medici Bank. Although Lorenzo had a brilliant mind the knowledge that he he learned over the years, caused for conflict between Pope Innocent Ⅲ resulting in the pope being arrested. Michelangelo was very talented throughout his whole life making famous works of arts including the Sistine Chapel and the Statue of David (Hancock 4:69-72).
Being a patron of artists allowed him to have a significant role in the arts allowing for impact in the world today. Due to his love of arts, he caused many beneficial impacts for Florence by increasing the population. Lorenzo was a well-educated, wealthy, patron that helped many, and making changes in politics, poetry and the education field. Lorenzo changed the political field due to being a ruler of Florence; maintaining peace as well as power by allying with the King of Naples.Lorenzo did not only help the Florentines he also, changed the dynamic of the government to simplify the executive branch to be a council of seventy. Although his voice was harsh and unpleasant he overcame this by negotiating with the King of Naples for peace for Florence and showing dignity and charm. Lorenzo was kind-hearted helping people in times of need.He showed his generosity by giving grains to people suffering from famine and showing hospitality to artists. Lorenzo allowed for many artist to stay with him including Giuliano da Sangallo, Botticello, Verrochi, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
