Odysseus is a strong warrior, not only physically but mentally as well. “He steeled himself instead, his mind in full control” (Homer 17.260). By having complete manipulation of his own mind, he knows exactly what he’s doing and how to control himself to react in an appropriate manner. He keeps his emotions in check and knows when and how to react to certain situations. “Square in the back it struck Odysseus, just under the right shoulder but he stood up against it—steady as a rock, unstaggered by Antinous’ blow—just shook his head, silent, his mind churning with thoughts of bloody work” (Homer 17.510-518). He held a steady stance right after he stood up, unaffected by the hit. Even after taking a hit to the shoulder, he still remains silent. Odysseus can still maintain full control of his mind and body, which reveals his strong character.…

First of all, Odysseus' cleverness is truly a valuable trait to have, as this hero finds himself in many difficult situations. During the Trojan War, Odysseus uses his cleverness by thinking of a plan to get into the city of Troy and killing their city. He devises the "Wooden Horse" trick by hiding his men in a giant wooden horse and kills the city of Troy, winning the war. After the war, Odysseus and his men start to sail to Ithaca but find themselves at the island of the Cyclops. Trapped by the ruthless one-eyed creature, Odysseus makes a clever plan of escape. In the words of Odysseus, "Now I chopped out a six foot section of this pole and set it down before my men, who scraped it; and when they had it smooth, I hewed again to make a stake with pointed end." (lines 271-275) With this stake, brave Odysseus pokes out the Cyclops' eye. Next, Odysseus uses his cleverness again by using the Cyclops' flock of sheep to get his men out of the creature's cave. "Three abreast I tied them silently together, twinning cords of willow from the ogre's bed; then slung a man under each middle one to ride there safely, shielded left and right." (lines 378-381) Without Odysseus' cleverness his men would have been eaten by the one-eyed monster.…

Odysseus was a quick witted man at warfare because he was known for his famous wooden horse trick. He came up with the idea of the "Trojan Horse". But what was his plan? It was to get the Greeks to hide in the Trojan horse and have the people of Troy to open the gates so the Greeks would attack. In my opinion this is a very clever and outstanding idea. Odysseus stands out among all others because of his physical strength. Penelope who is Odysseus’s wife has set up a challenge for her suitors, knowing that Odysseus is the only one with such strength, “Bend and string it if you can.
