The first soldier and war to discuss is Odysseus. He originated from Homer's epic poem, ¨The Odyssey¨. Odysseus was one of the soldiers who fought in the Trojan War. Another similarity between Odysseus and the World War II soldiers were that they were both gone for a considerably substantial amount of time. The Trojan War was a battle that lasted for ten years. However, after the war had ended, soldiers had to make a journey to their home. Odysseus’ journey home also continued for ten years, meaning that Odysseus left for twenty years in total. The second world war was not as long as the Trojan War, nor was the soldier's journey as treacherous as Odysseus´. World War II lasted six years in total. Since the current transportation methods at that time were much more advanced, soldiers had an easier journey home, and it lasted for a much shorter time.
