Taxation without representation was the main factor which led the American colonies to declare their independence from Great Britain. The Sugar Act was the first in the series of British Colonial taxation acts that provided fuel for revolutionary mood in American colonies. Shortly thereafter came the British Stamp Act. This time the new tax burden took form of official stamps that colonists had to purchase and that were required for legal contracts, newspapers, and other official paperwork. The protests in the colonies started as the news broke. This led to the creation of The Sons of Liberty. Under John Adams they organized riots and violent attacks to intimidate tax collectors.…
The English parliament was more responsible for the American revolution rather than the American rebels, for many reasons the English parliament created nothing but anger and war. In the years 1763 and 1775 several laws were passed down that made it difficult to trade and raised taxes. In the year 1764, prime minister Grenville proposed a stamp tax. This meant the colonist had to purchase government issued stamps for legal paper work and other goods. Once this news got to the colonies they all rioted and destroyed the house where the stamps where distributed. In 1767 the British government passed the Townshend act which would allow the British government to have power over the colonist and enable them to raise the taxes on British products.…

The revolution war ended in 1783 and the colonies can start to create a new way of life. One way they began was by creating rules and law an example of one is the articles of confederation. During the course of 1775-1783 the American colonists were under control by Great Britain. As expected, these people were unhappy with the treatment such as taxes and the colonists decided to take action and revolt against Britain.…
Thomas Jefferson once said, "I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical." He and the other founding fathers knew very well what that meant. They lived it during the Revolution, and they succeeded. Their rebellion against the British king was punishable by death. Had they done nothing, they might have even benefitted at the expense of the people, but they were willing to disobey the law and face the consequences of what was viewed as wrong to do what they knew was right.…
The ideals that sprung forth from the Declaration of Independence were directly reflected upon during the creation of the U.S Constitution and adoption of the Bill of Rights. The thirteen colonies were under the tyrannical rule of the British monarchy, King George III. In the upcoming years to the Revolutionary War, many colonists were frustrated over previous laws enacted by the oligarchy, British Parliament. The Quartering Act of 1765, establishment of admiralty courts, and taxation acts similar to the Stamp Act of 1765, made many colonist feel that their basic liberties as British subject were being encroached on.…
The colonists had refused to be ruled by what they had described as a tyrant, which is why they ceased fighting and declared themselves independent. Before the Declaration, the colonists had been withstanding a lot of oppression from their government 3,000 miles away, the British Parliament. Starting with the Proclamation Line of 1763, issued by parliament to prevent the colonies from having war with the surrounding Native Americans, this was one of the first causes that had caused the seed of distrust in the colonists to sprout. Because this Proclamation was issued soon after the French and Indian War, the British were up to their ears in war debt. As a result, the British had passed several acts raising colonial taxes. One of the first of these was the Sugar Act, which had set a tax on sugar purchased in the colonies specifically. The colonies had already been experiencing a multitude of financial difficulties, so a tax act to feed that struggle was indeed a burden. This was soon followed by the Stamp Act, which had placed a tax on every piece of printed paper they had used. The British were very relentless on reasserting their authority over the colonies, however, the colonists are even more so. Boycotting the goods the British taxed, the colonists were successful in…
Then followed the British Massacre in 1770. This occurred because of some of the British and the American colonists started to argue and it ended up with 5 colonists dead. In result of that, the British passed the Tea Act in 1773 which legalized the East India Company to be exempt from the taxation of tea. The Sons of Liberty organized the Boston Tea Party which was when the colonists dumped tea into the harbor. King George was angry and passed the Intolerable Acts of 1774 which closed the port of Boston until all the tea they dumped was paid for. Then came the first Continental Congress in 1774 which was the colonists response to the Intolerable Acts. The first battle of the American Revolutionary War occurred in 1775 when the British army and American militia fired at one another at Lexington and Concord. Due to this, the Second Continental Congress which was a committee of five designated to write reasons why they should become independent. During the time period of 1763 to 1776, American colonists and the British went back and forth due to the addition of taxes and continuous harsh rule of the British. This resulted in the American Revolution and our struggle for…
The Founding Fathers of the United States had one goal in mind- American Liberty. This could be achieved in many different ways, hence the reason that many of the Founding Fathers disputed over how the U.S. government should be run. One of the most influential disputed that there were occurred during the Constitutional Convention. It was unknown how much power to give to the Federal government.…
“Gentlemen may cry, ‘Peace! Peace!’ -- but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! (...) I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!” (Henry, 1775). Great Britain passed many laws that brewed trouble between the colonists and the British. But there were two laws that stood out the most. The Stamp Act was a law passed by Parliament and was established on March 22, 1765. The Quartering Act was 2 British laws passed by the Parliament of Great Britain in 1765 and 1774; it was also part of the Intolerable Acts. The Stamp Act and Quartering Act were the two most important events that contributed to colonists getting involved in the American Revolution. Those two acts were crucial to the cause of…
After all of the hardship and violence the British imposed on the colonists, the Americans were justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain. The Colonists were justified in breaking away because the parliament passed laws that were unjustified, The British king was of tyranny, The Stamp Act of 1765, The Townshend Act and The Boston Massacre. All of this lead to the colonies joining together and rebelling against the British.…
The American colonists were in fact justified to fight a war to break away from great Britain. The colonists had full right and freedom to escape English control. Despite many diplomatic pleads from the American colonists, Britain ignored them; thus making rebellion the only option for the American colonists as the treatment from the British was unnecessarily petty and unfair. The British parliament and King, George III believed they had the right to demand the colonists to pay tax in order to pay back British war debts caused by the French and Indian war. This was the Quartering act in the year 1765, however, a large majority of the colonists did not agree with paying taxes to Great Britain as the law was passed by the British king and parliament…
(Hewitt & Lawson, 2016) They were enforcing stricter laws. The British government created many new Acts that were placed on the colonies and colonists to keep down the smuggling and to impose harsh rules for commerce and trade. The British troops remained in the colonies to keep an eye on the colonists and they felt as though they were being intruded on. Uprisings and protests began and led to violence that prompted more support in the push for independence from Great Britain. There are many Acts and laws that were already in place and not sternly enforced. First, they enforced the Navigation Acts in the 1760s and then the Sugar Act in 1764, which was a tax on sugar, coffee, and luxury items protests started to escalate. The 1765 Stamp Act imposed a tax on paper goods, which was a direct tax on items that were already in the colonies not on imports or exports. This instigated tensions to build. The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766 but it had already done damage. This allowed for the colonists to see that their protests were becoming organized and successful. Groups of colonists who were opposed to Britain began to form. This included the infamous "Sons of Liberty". As the protests continued to grow and patriot groups were forming, British…
Many countries have wars that affect them in one way or another. Now, the outcome is different, the outcome of any war can totally change the way of life in a country or do nothing for it. A war that made a great impact on the united states of America was the revolutionary war. The revolutionary war was the united states way of moving towards independence. Americans were under the control of the British while this all started. The main point of the revolution was so that the American people can gain the respect and freedom that was rightfully theirs. The British were in high debt and decided that a fast and easy way to make revenue was by taxiing Americans and having them provide housing for British troops in America out of their own pocket. Some of the taxes put up against Americans were the sugar act of 1764which set higher duties ion sugar and lower on molasses. The tea act of 1773 which reduced the price of tea yet gave monopoly to companies in eastern India. Not all of the new laws from Britain were allowed one of which was the stamp act 1766 which placed a large variety of taxes on certain legal documents. Shortly after while British were facing a small depression they passed the town shed acts of 1767 which had placed taxes on everything from clothes to paper to tea. They American people were not very pleased with all of these new taxes. American citizens started protesting against British laws and doing whatever they could to not have to follow them. As Americans started rebelling against the British, battles were rising all over the nation. First was the rebellion in Boston, as we know the Boston tea party, where Americans snuck onto ships and dumped many boxes of tea into the harbor. Now, around this time everyone could say that Americans had been irritated a great deal because they were being pushed around as if they were babies. They started circulating letters and newspapers on how what the British were doing was unfair and that…
