How Did The Revolutionary War Affect Colonial Life
When studying the time period 1765-1800, the majority of people tend to believe that the British Empire remained the diplomatic power they were during the ‘Age of Imperialism’, until the American Revolution began. However, the issues did not truly start then; prior to the American Revolution, Great Britain entered into a conflict most commonly referred to as the French and Indian War, or alternatively the 7 Years War. The French and Indian War consisted of Great Britain, and their colonies, fighting against the French, and Native American tribes, for the control of land west of the 13 colonies. The war lasted a total of 9 years, including the global battles that occurred because of it, during this time the British government poured millions of dollars worth of …show more content…
The harsh taxes passed onto the colonies caused a major rift between them and their mother country, which eventually led to the American Revolution. The American Revolution was not a slow process nor an unimportant one, it impacted the time period in such a dramatic way that, in my opinion, the world would not have turned out the way it did if not for the American Revolution. Because of the scale of the conflict, every aspect of colonial life was greatly impacted by it; this includes politics, the economy, and generally society. Under British rule, prior to the French and Indian War, the colonists had gotten used to a certain level of freedom, primarily due to the high levels of salutary neglect they experienced from their mother country; leading to them believing that they were technically no longer under Great Britain, because they essentially governed themselves and Britain allowed it, as long as the colonies continued to generate
