How Does 9/11 Affect Society
On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 am, a plane hit the twin towers in New York City; thus, causing an event that would kill 2,977 Americans. That first plane started the devastation of 9/11 and will forever mark a national tragedy. On 09/11/2001 four planes in three different locations were hijacked by terrorists and were used to attack America. At first this was looked at as a possible accident until the second plane crashed, it was clear in that moment that this was not an accident. President George Bush was alerted about this incident while at a Florida Elementary School, which caused him to go into immediate hiding. The events of 9/11 impacted the way America looks at society and terrorism. This is illustrated by the jarring events of the day and the reactions of Americans to this day. The Pentagon in Washington D.C was one of the 3 places hit on 9/11. The Pentagon building is a large pentagon shaped, five story building. The Pentagon is the building for the United States Department of Defense and it nearby the White House. 4 planes were hijacked by people sent from Osama Bin Laden. It’s believed that the plane was heading for The White House because of the direction it was heading. People look at terrorism differently because the Muslim people who flew the planes crashing into American soil.
9/11 started a more intense stereotype on the Muslim’s and people still hold strong reactions to the events of the day.
Some Americans reactions today, are based off of the events of 9/11. It is commonly associated that if you’re a muslim, you’re a terrorist because of who hijacked the planes. People started to look at the people in society differently because of the constant fear of not knowing what could happen at any moment and what people were capable of. People who are old enough to remember 9/11 get emotional talking about the events because all of the shock and devastation. “I visited the Pentagon a few days after September 11, and I still remember so vividly the smell of terror surrounding the entire building and complex. Since 9/11 Osama Bin Laden has been killed, the Twin Towers and Pentagon have been rebuilt, and there has been a plethora of beautiful memorials that were built in remembrance which helped people cope.
