How Does Drummond Show Courage
Henry Drummond is the lawyer that defended Cates during the case, altho he loses the case, he left the town of Hillsboro a hero. He exposed that Brady and the whole town is blindly following the church without knowing what’s in the bible. Drummond showed he is a smart, courageous and caring who won the heart of the readers. In act 1 scene 2 Drummond demonstrated that he is smart when he examined Bannister. Drummond ask if Bannister read the Bible, but he responded that he couldn't read. If Bannister can't read the Bible. We can tell that Bannister learned about the Bible thought sharing of ideas. Cates shared his ideas of evolutions to the kids that he taught but instead of getting recognized for his teaching he was sentenced to jail. Drummond flipped the case around by giving two identical situations with different outcome. …show more content…
The town started to spread rumors of Drummond, things like “ A slouching hulk of man, whose head juts out like an animal’s.” and “ that he is a creature of the Devil, perhaps even the Devil himself!” Seeing him once Brown told the town of what Drummond is, soon the words spread and the town think he is a evil man. It would take a man a lot of courage to go into a town where he is hated, and seen as a bad person. When he made his first appearance Melinda yelled “It’s the Devil.” Even knowing that the whole town is going against him, he did not let it affect his case and keep strong with
