Many people showed respect after the case. However, Bob Ewell did not think he needed to be appreciated. Bob instead decided to spit in his face and tell him he will get him back (Lee, 217). Atticus didn't let this bother him. He just began to make jokes about this. He doesn't care what Bob thinks of him. Atticus could of made this a big deal, but with his courage he acts like nothing happened. He still goes on with his life. He has lots of strength in the difficult times of the novel. Just like this, Bob is really mad at Atticus, but Atticus shows the amount of courage he has when Bob is threatening him.
Anyone can have courage if they want to. People normally can't choose if they want it or if they don't. Characters in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee show many types of courage. Helping others when in danger, sticking up for others, and sticking up for yourself are just a few reasons of how people have or show courage. Being successful, can have a big part to deal with courage. Having courage can make your life a whole lot

During a time when black people were thought to be lower than white people, Atticus defended a black man in court. He said to his children, "I'm simply defending a Negro his name's Tom Robinson," (pg. 75). It required a lot of confidence and caring for Atticus to defend Tom, and the black community knew that Tom did not stand a chance without Atticus' help. They respected him and looked to him as a hero. They showed this when they stood up for him in the courtroom. The entire group of black people who were there stood up for him. Also, the parishioners at Calpurnia's church made Jem and Scout feel welcome when they visited their church. This showed that the black people also respected Atticus' family. If Atticus were just trying his best in a difficult circumstance, then he would not be as respected as he was by the black community. The black people greatly acknowledged the qualities that Atticus displayed by defending Tom and…

After the trial that Atticus lost, Ewell threatened Atticus and spat on his face. In response, Atticus just took out a handkerchief and wiped his face. The usual response, the “manly”, response ends up in some kind of fight, “but it can take greater strength to refuse to sink to another man’s level and to simply walk away with dignity” (McKay 4). Atticus is a true man. He knows that he destroyed all of Ewell’s credibility during the trial and that he would need some kind of stupid comeback. Although Ewell didn’t see him as a man, he didn’t care and just walked away with no anger or anything, just like a true…

After Christmas, Scout overhears Atticus talking to her uncle Jack about the upcoming trial. “Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I don’t pretend to understand,” Atticus explains to Jack (Lee 117).
