How Does Technology Change The Workplace
I can recall attending my 6th Grade's open house with my mother. I remember being nervous, leaving the comforts of my beloved elementary school, and not knowing what the future had in store for me. I don't remember meeting my teachers, or taking a tour of the new school, in fact the only other thing I do remember from that night was my nose being stuck in my mother's silver Nokia cellphone, playing what would be considered by today's standards a very low tech game. This was the highlight of my night and that cellphone game seemed to be the highlight of 2006. I never could have imagined that technology would sky rocket the way that it did. By the time I was finishing my last year in middle school the iPhone had been introduced. Within the last decade technology has completely changed how we live our lives, this sentiment carries over into the workplace as well. While having a decent type by touch speed, being able to create a spread sheet with excel, or put together a power point presentation once was more than enough, today employers are looking for much more technologically …show more content…
However, this does not mean basic workplace skills have been lost. The ability to communicate, whether that be written or oral, will always be marketable. The way communication looks may have changed. For example, in most workplaces correspondence is mainly sent through email and not physical letters any longer. However, the skill itself is still the same. The ability to relay well developed thoughts could be the deciding factor in a successful group presentation. Today you will probably catch me playing Candy Crush on my iPhone 7 instead of the graphically challenged games on my mother's brick size Nokia. Yet both games were intended to help the consumer pass time. It is the same with skills in the workplace. Modern day workplaces my look and operated differently but productivity is what is truly

Technology is controlling and changing our everyday lives. I strongly believe Gary Shteyngart in his article “Only Connect”; not only is the I-phone changing everybody lives, but any other smart phone that exists in today’s society. Shteyngart says “With each passing year, scientists estimate that I lose between 6 and 8 percent of my humanity, so that by the close of this decade you will be able to quantify my personality.” He is correct because every year technology changes and advance. Each year people personality decrease in how they act in their everyday life. Smart phones have everything you can possibly imagine. Society is becoming too comfortable and lazy because they have all the answer they need rite at the palm of their hands. Smart phones have become very addicting to the point that people are not realizing the damage it’s doing to them self.…

Anyone living today knows the effects technology has had on society today, not to mention how it’s changed our generation entirely. Our generation can hardly remember a time when technology didn’t exist. It’s become a part of our lifestyle, and isn’t going anywhere soon. “The evolution of technology has reached a point where pretty much anything is available at the touch of a button. Shopping, learning, working and entertainment can all be accessed from the comfort of our own homes, on a train or sat in a cafe,” (The Guardian).…

Over the past few years technology has changed and had significant impact on the way we live. Almost everyone has a smart phone, regardless of age or social status. We text and email instead of talk, because it faster and convenient. We can rent movies with a click of the button and stream it to our device or home. Everything is based on internet and although prices aren’t cheap, everyone can afford something that suits their budget. I have also noticed that our textbook uses bar scan, assuming that everyone has a smart phone to retrieve it. Tablets, which are like mini computers, absolutely took over the market. Even small children know how to operate them. They are easy to use, convenient and have all the things needed in one place. You are able to connect to people from all over the world in seconds. Not only you can hear them, but you can also see them. Things that seemed to be impossible a few years back now are only one click of a button away. The cars are equipped in road maps and phone systems, so it makes our driving more safe and helpful. We probably think it can’t get any better, but we are almost guaranteed to be introduced to a new phenomenon at least once every few months.…

Technology has significantly changed my relationships within the market world. Technology is all around us in everything we do varying from banking, to getting coupons to our e-mails from previous stores we have shopped at, to getting our grades or even classes online. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is take a look at my smart phone. I check the weather application to see what I should wear. I glance at my news application to see what is going on around the world. I open my traffic application to see which route I should take to work or school that day. Of course, like many other people in the world, check my Facebook application. I am already tuned in to the technological world, all before I brush my teeth.…

Communication and careers have been directed with technology. When we get so glued to our phones that we can’t go an hour without them, that is what is wrong with our generation. Our online personas stop us from really living. Cyberbullying tears us apart and privacy is taken away. We are not living when we sit in a room all day scrolling through our phones and laptops. Our generation needs to gain back happiness in this world. Life is about creating yourself, making connections and discovering places. We need to use technology as a helping hand, not as a controlling…

Every year it seems like companies come out with bigger and better cell phones, computers, cars, and iPods. Just when you thought you had the best, something better comes out. This is because technology has advanced since past generations. As the future generation, we have the role of creating bigger and better things. Since technology is advancing, our education also has to advance. Our grandparent’s idea of a computer was a lead pencil and a notebook. In the future our school list is going to consist of laptops. My generation is so much more complex. We have to learn how to use new technology, otherwise it is pointless. Our minds and thinking have to be able to…

“The difference between the winners and losers in retail increasingly comes down to one factor: tech savvy” (Sherman, 2012). The retail marketplace is increasingly competitive and therefor undergoing constant change to attract and convert consumers. According to the survey conducted by the retail consulting firm RSR, “firms that outperform industry averages for annual same-store sales comparisons tend to use and understand specialized computer software tools to manage specific aspects of merchandising” (Sherman, 2012).…

As little as a hundred years from now our world as we know it will be gone. We will be able to speak multiple languages fluently with the assistance of DARPA and Google, electric cars will drive us freely through highways, and children will hardly know what it's like to learn without the use of a computer. Studies show that children who spend more time on technological devices tend to lack the understanding of emotion and can struggle with forming relationships with others. What does this mean for our future as our world becomes more and more advanced? In Sherry Turkle’s book “Alone Together,” she successfully illustrates her ideas on the excessive and the isolating use of technology by using real examples and effectual diction…

Over the years we have also see a big difference in computers from the past compared to those that we use today. I remember when I was just in elementary school we had computers that were so big and heavy and had so many cables that you could even move it and needed a lot of desk space to put it down. In 2015 we have laptop computers that you can carry around with you when you travel, touchscreen, no wire needed only to charge, no keyboard, and no mouse. I would say that today’s society is a lot more tech savvy than it was years ago, but that it because our economy has to change with time as the demand for better is always…

On a biting night where frosts condense on grass and leaves, I stood alone in the voiceless bus stop, waiting for the delayed bus that barely anyone uses. Rain soaked through my jacket while the wind scratched my face like sharp knives. Because big technology companies and universities specialized in computer programming are all located in the states, I had to leave my affectionate family and study alone in a foreign place where I knew no one. “But it is worth it,” I thought, “If I can get into a world’s leading company like Google, I would have the wealth to live a comfortable life with my parents.” Growing up in the 2000s, I witnessed the growth and change of technology. The cellphone in my pocket weighed less than 200 grams, and that was unimaginable back when I was in elementary school. It was considered very cool at that time if someone had a flip cellphone to show off. As I grew up, technology like touch screen, tablets and smartphones evolved rapidly, and I knew that there would be many opportunities in technology industries. Despite of what my parents expected, I went to the United States to study about computer programming, and I would graduate very soon. Meanwhile, my sister back in Canada wanted to become a teacher. Teachers might be an important job in the society, but technology can change the world.…
