Tris changes a lot in her physical appearance as well as in the way she thinks after changing factions. Despite being a petite person, Tris manages to become mentally strong by the end of the book and think for herself. Since Tris was born and raised in the abnegation faction, she had to act like an Abnegation. The definition of Abnegation is “renunciation of your own interests in favour of the interests of others”. In the beginning, her family members affect her choice at the choosing ceremony. Even after she left them, she was always thinking of them, sometimes regretting her choice of changing factions. Later in the book, her friends have an impact on what she does. For example, Christina convinces Tris to change herself and do something big such as getting a tattoo and changing her appearance. Tris’s enemy makes her want to become stronger and more powerful so she can defend herself. Last but not least, Tobias has a large impact on her life and decisions. Tobias helps Tris become stronger and a better person. He is also her lover which affects her decisions a lot.
The main obstacle she has to pass is to pass the initiation without any problems occurring. However, while she is trying to get on the leaderboard, she has to hide her true identity.
