How Fishing Changed My Life
As the end of my high school career is coming to an end I am glad to say that one thing has not changed about me at all and my passion for it has actually grew since the beginning of high school. Fishing is an amazing outdoor sport and activity. Fishing has been in my life for as long as I could remember and I loved that my dad is the one to introduce it to me. It is a sport that is a stress reliever especially for me and it is relaxing and when the fishing is good it’s so much fun to do. There are different places to explore and different types of fish to catch and different people to encounter. The people who fish are amazing I have yet to meet a fishermen or women that are rude or mean. I love the nature and environment in each lake, river, …show more content…
I remember that we would go as a family and to be honest I didn’t like it in the beginning because it was boring and my dad would yell at me to stop throwing the dirt, keep still, and be quiet because being loud or even talking will scare the fish away. It kinda ruined the fun for me but when I grew up I began enjoying fishing. It really helped me grow close to my family but especially my dad because I feel as if I could talk to him about anything. I grew close to my brother through fishing as well because all we do is fishing together and it still doesn’t end when he left for college because occasionally I go visit him and we go fishing. I recommend that all families should go take their kids out fishing every few times as a kid it will help you grow to be patient and kind. I have yet met a fishermen that is mean and rude. Fishing is an amazing way to grow closer to your family and a great way to become …show more content…
Its funny because, “Mark Twain loved going fishing but hated catching fish so he did not use a hook on his line. In reality catching fish interfered with his relaxation time, since he had to take the fish off the hook and do something with it.”(Mother Earth News) Many times I go fishing here at the Kings river to just escape from the stress of school and just clear my mind and think it over some of my feelings and just stuff I’m going through. It’s a lot better than doing drugs to try to get rid of stress. Another thing is that most fishing places don’t have reception so you automatically connect with the environment around you and you notice the beauty of what God has given us and it relaxes you and makes you think of what is really important in your life right now. Some of the most memorable times is when I’m fishing and the most beautiful things I have seen in my life are because of fishing and I don’t regret trespassing to get to a good fishing spot and I don’t regret to walk into the lake up to my hips wearing boots and jeans to reach the middle of the pond where all the bass were jumping. That’s only the sunset, I go through nights with only one or two hours of sleep because of fishing and let me tell you no regrets at all because I was fishing at Wishon and Courtright

There I am sitting in my canoe, I close my eyes and just listen. I listen to the trees swaying in the breeze, the raindrops pitter-patting on my coat, the movement of the paddle as it dips into the water. I picture the beautiful autumn foliage that surrounds me as leaves gently fall from the tree onto the surface of the water and make a print on the water, even if it is only there for a second. As English writer William Hazlitt once said “We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts.” This is how I felt out on the river during our trip, I felt like I could really understand and appreciate the beauty and serene peace of being one with nature. I also felt like I could appreciate the care that it takes to keep…

As a kid, I used to go to my room for alone time, but gradually over time, I have discovered that I love nature and its beauty. Currently, I enjoy going to Canyon Lake for alone time because it allows me to escape from my everyday troubles and a sense of security is felt when I go there. I try to go to Canyon Lake about once or twice a month, so I can de-stress and be prepared for what life has to throw at me next. Many people just see Canyon Lake as just a lake, but for me, it is something more special inside; when I go I always get this sensation that cannot be described in words. When I go to Canyon Lake, I specifically go to where the dam is that opens up to Guadalupe River.…

There is no reason for me to stop fishing. I cannot stop, nor will I. Sure, there may be some discomfort, but I will never admit defeat to the elements. As long as I stand on my two feet, I will continue to fish, continue to inhale the fresh dawn air, and continue to feel the crisp morning breeze in my face. My mind is much too strong to lose to my body. If I wake up in the morning, I will cast my net, reel in my catch, and head for home, head back to my ungrateful household. After all the sacrifices I have made, this is the thanks I get.…

    School to Prison Pipeline

In today’s society our children go down one of two paths: become successful or become criminals. The question then must be asked: have we allowed our children to be tracked down such opposite paths by using discipline as an excuse? There may well be an argument that ultimately the school and prison system have nothing to do with one another; however, I believe they have become one in the same. When a child can be suspended from school for bringing a plastic knife to cut his banana or a child can be expelled after two incidents of misbehavior, I think we have a problem. Where is the compassion and understanding that our education system was built on, particularly in cases of low income, urban or under-resourced communities? Our society casts off our urban youth as misfits and criminals, yet I feel our children can be saved: all we need is more education and a hard lesson on reality.…

Fish have lots of protein and are very healthy. Most people think just because they don't have a fishing pole and hooks they cannot get fish. Nothing could be farther from the truth, a lot of deferent fish hooks, spears and traps can be made of wood and carved with a knife. If you are fishing with a hook and line there are a few important things you will need. You will need a hook, line, and bait. If you don't have these things they can be easily made. To make a fish hook all you need is a knife and some wood or bone. A very simple and effective hook to make is a gorge hook. All you need to do is take a stick, break it to the length needed then sharpen it into a point at both ends. If you don't have a line you can make one out of tough plant fibers. Basswood, elm, cedar, nettle, yucca are very good plans to use. The fiber will be easier to work with if it is soaked in water for a few minutes. To make the fibers into strong line, tie two ends together, then start twisting the fibers clockwise, twist each one individually and not together, until tight. Then wrap them together in a counter clockwise and tie them at the end. The opposite twisting and wrapping help keep the line from unwinding. To get bait use bugs or worms. When you fish cut open the belly to see what they are eating. If you don't want to stay with your line for hours there are things to do so you don't have to sit there with it. You can make a Twitch-up…

Also I go to my friends cabin’s with them for the weekend in the summer. We then usually go tubing and then jump into the shining clear water of the lake. My favorite time of the season to go to Ruth lake is in the summer when the water is warm and the sun is out. I also like the lake because you can fishing, which is fun for me.
