Most of us think that racism has positively improved over the past years and that may be true but it is still long from gone. For example, in America on the 26 of February 2012 17 year old black male, Trayvon Martin was shot dead by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman saw Trayvon who was walking back from a convenience store and assumed the boy to be a threat as he was a young black male wearing a hoodie. He later told police that he shot Trayvon in self defence and was not charged for murder at the time. Luckily, after national media focused on the shooting, he was charged for second degree murder. An incredible example of this is Martin Luther King born 1929 15 of January. King was born into an America that was run by racism and being a black male himself every day privileges we have today was not available to him. He is most well known for his “I have a dream” speech, in which he talks about how he hopes the future will hold better lives for those who are being discriminated. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” he continues to repeat I have a dream. King was assassinated five years later by James Earl Ray, but not before his speech had made a massive impact and changed the heart of many Americans, these are words from his famous “I have a dream”
