How Has Skiing Changed My Life
Nordic skiing has changed my life. When I was young I did not think I was capable of performing in such an intense sport. I saw women with such strength and power, gliding effortlessly across the snow. I wanted to be like them, but I lacked the confidence, and I was hesitant to leave my comfort zone. I wanted to stay in a corner of the world where there was no pressure and nothing was expected of me.
I joined BSF when I finally realized that I would only feel pressure if I put it upon myself. Since I joined the team my confidence has bloomed. I have been taught to love myself for who I am and learned that strength is much more powerful than beauty. Even now, several into the BSF program I sometimes think, how would I ever live without this

It's much easier to focus on my characteristics, so here they are; First of all, I love to ski, skiing is something that I always want to be doing, and a sport that I could never live without. I am dedicated. I could not imagine life without this close-knit community and friends, who always will lend advice or a shoulder to cry on. I am a leader. I will always stand up for my teammates. I will take charge when it is needed, and am happy to help out whenever I can. My teammates helped me out and also made a list of my leadership skills. They wrote: Brynn is able to take control, she sets a positive example for others, and is open to ideas. Brynn considers the perspectives of others, and is aware of fellow teammate's goals, Brynn also has a powerful presence in a group, and will never hesitate to stand up for what she believes in. One word to describe myself would be leadership. As the commander of my high school’s JROTC Drill Team, and the President of the National Technical Honor Society I have had many occasions where I had to step out of my comfort zone and take control of situations. Before joining JROTC I did not know what being a great leader was, but after becoming a squad leader I realized I needed to step out of my comfort zone and be the great leader that my squad deserves. Now three years later I am now the Drill Team commander, which I absolutely love being. I love being a guide for others, to be a supporter for them as they go through difficulty. Being a leader has taught me to be humble, to put others before myself. When being a leader you have to realize…

Trepidation filled my head. Despite the negative 10 degree weather, sweat pooled in my gloves and rolled down my face. Thoughts raced through my mind; a wrong execution could mean death. 11 years of ski lessons had cultivated to this one moment. My life was on the line, yet a wave of excitement shook me. I took a look down at the jump that had come to dominate Joe’s backyard, replacing his childhood swing set. The jump was sizable, but not gargantuan. From previous hits I noticed its “poppy” lip - skier talk for a jump that sends you up rather than out - which is ideal for the trick I was about to attempt: a backflip.…

About 2,500 miles east lies the cold and rainy city of Canton, Ohio. The majority of my childhood was spent inside the house as Ohio was not ideal for outdoor adventure. Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

As a freshman, I made the varsity volleyball team. With this position came a lot of responsibility and pressure. My teammates always looked at me as the “baby”, but they expected me to play at the same level as the seniors. I learned how to deal with difficult personalities and I learned how to commit myself to a team and a sport. I also learned that I was a role model to other teammates and young volleyball players. Just like the Pink Ranger, people looked up to me and I tried to lead by example throughout my volleyball career.…

Secondly, a good skier would acknowledge that it takes years to master the art of skiing; I have been skiing since the age of 2 and there is still room for improvement, whereas snowboarding only takes a few weeks to be almost prefect. Last year throughout the season after a full day of ski training I would put on a snowboard a have a snowboard lesson. After about 8 lessons I could go down all of the black runs on a snowboard. Many people have told of this happening and if a sport only takes a few weeks to master then everyone can agree that the culture of snowboarding is far less refined than the culture of skiing.…

A.S.B. was an amazing class for me last year and I hope to be in it again. I would represent my Junior class in a positive way. It would be fun helping get kids involved in school activities. I would love to help with the school dances and assemblies because I am very creative. I think students should feel like school is there home away from home. Getting them involved and picking them for activities would give them a much better outlook and a good attitude towards school. I love getting decked out for spirit days so I would encourage other people to dress up with me! Leading in an enthusiastic way I will do the tasks at hand and get the work done, while being an example to others. I have a natural ability to improvise and adapt to every situation. I’ve had much experience like working a summer job at my Dads chemical company. In the office I helped work the phones for customer service. I also helped organize the company’s promotional events. To accomplish goals you must always respect others, work hard and get the job done; that’s what I think A.S.B. is all about. I’m up for anything, and available for whatever I’m needed to do. My family completely supports me as a leader and encourages any and all involvement that I am called to do. I am very energetic and enthusiastic about things and have many ideas. Also I’m very artistic and love to draw. I think one of my strengths is my creative mind. Being kind of a perfectionist is probably one of my strengths and one of my weaknesses. Sometimes I want to take my time to make everything right. Some things I could bring to A.S.B. are a fresh outlook, hard work and mainly new ideas. Maybe we could do some kind of marathon that went on the whole night till the morning; I think kids would have so much fun and we could still raise money. Otherwise I think A.S.B. is a great program and that’s why I’m running and would love to be in it again. I loved it last year and am hoping to…

I have played club volleyball for 5 years, currently going on my 6th year, and I have been captain for the previous 4 years, despite moving to a new club. Many people are unaware of the pressure given to a team captain. A captain is constantly looked up to as an example and exhibits leadership traits. As a captain, it is my responsibility to coordinate my teammates’ role and constantly motivate and encourage. I want the best outcome for my team and it is my duty to help them achieve greatness. In order to do so, I treat my team with respect and and recognize the contributions of…

    Essay On Snowboarding

I was six years old when my father strapped me into my first pair of skis, “Skiing is way more fun than snowboarding. Snowboarding isn’t even a real sport,” he jokingly told me while putting on his own skis. Little did my father know I would later become a snowboarder at the age of twelve, following the example of my mother and two brothers. During my junior year at age sixteen, I joined the brand new snowboarding club at Blackfoot High School. Although the club only functioned for a year, I realized that small, northern towns like Blackfoot Idaho were full of winter sport fanatics. This thought brought a question to my mind; are there schools in the U.S. that have snowboarding as an actual high school sport? After more research on the subject, I found that only a few private boarding schools around the country offer snowboarding as an actual school sport. Public high schools usually include sports that require physical exertion, competition and a way to generate revenue like football, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and much more, so I asked myself; why not snowboarding?…

Skiing or Snowboarding? It is a commonly debated question. Everyone has their different opinions on this matter, but mine is that snowboarding will always be the best. Because it’s easy to learn, how it’s more convenient, you look cool while doing it, and fewer injuries are some of the reasons I think that snowboarding will always come first. The first reason is that it is all I am acquainted with. It was hard to learn at first, but once I got the hang of things I was ripping it up like a professional. Learning how to snowboard is a time-consuming and bruising process. The best time to learn is after a good blizzard when the snow is still forgiving and powdery. “Anyone who has done it will tell you that learning to snowboard is a long and bruising process at first,…

Skiing first dates back to more than 7,000 years ago with origins in Norway and Sweden. Skiing slowly transformed into its current form starting in the mid 19th century when Norwegians developed bindings that improved the skiers control, enabling them to turn and jump easily. Skiing eventually gained popularity and inspired Norwegian explorers to introduce skiing to the Alps due to the ideal steep slopes and deep snow. After this occurred it sparked the growth of downhill skiing, which eventually led to competitive skiing. Skiing today consists of 11 different styles which include terrain park, bowls, powder, racing, back country, summer skiing, moguls, avalanche, telemark, helisking, and freestyle skiing. Skiing reached a professional level and has been an event in the Olympic Games since 1924.…
