During my time in high school, I have always done my best to succeed in the activities I was involved in and the classes I attended. I was open to new experiences and challenges. I have always been a dedicated learner in the classroom and am always eager to share my input in class discussions. Outside of the classroom, I have been an active member of numerous clubs and sports. One major activity I was a part of for all of my four years of high school was varsity ice hockey. Ice hockey has taught me invaluable skills that I will have with me for future endeavors. Through my participation with hockey, I have developed discipline, determination, patience, organization, leadership, time management, and the importance of teamwork. These skills will …show more content…
During the hockey season, it was difficult to balance schoolwork with hockey. However, I managed my time and made room for both and made sure that I did not allow myself to fall behind in my school work because I was always told that school comes first. I did not want to jeopardize my school work but I was dedicated to being a part of ice hockey because it is an activity I enjoyed. I was able to utilize my leadership skills in my role on first line as a starter. This role showed me the importance of a leader and how difficult being a leader can be because all of my other teammates saw what I was doing and would try and do the same. My background experiences have allowed me to grow and mature. I am excited to utilize my knowledge and experiences to fullest. I aspire to major in biology at Pennsylvania State University and later become an Orthopedic Surgeon. After my visit at Pennsylvania State University I realized that this is the school I see myself attending after high school. With the knowledge and experiences I have acquired through the years, I am confident that I can not only be a successful student, but also contribute socially and academically to the school. I will manage my time to balance between academic priorities and social engagements. Pennsylvania State University is a phenomenal institution and I believe I can be a great addition to the

Explaining things that people don't understand has always been a strong point in my time within the community. In sports, specifically volleyball, I am more experienced than most of the people in my grade. When someone is having trouble with a skill like hitting or passing I gladly help them and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Another quality that I have, is the ability to effectively communicate with others. Not only am I able to communicate with people that I am helping, but also with leaders within this club. I can communicate clearly and professionally through; email, text, verbally, and on the phone. When I have a planned absence from a sport’s practice, I notify my coach at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time. My work ethic has always been a strong point within my years of schooling. I have never been tardy to a class or skipped class to do things that I think are more important. Working in groups or teams has always been something I am good at. Working with teams efficiently and effectively is very important, this is especially shown on sports teams, were at practice if one person is slacking off it's harder for…

Shoulder fake left, head fake right, a sweet inside outside move, and he fires it in top shelf, beating the goalie glove side to win the game. While that may sound like a narrative of a game-winning hockey goal, in reality, it is 1:30 AM on your average Thursday night and I am struggling to find the perfect concluding sentence to finish my history term paper. Often when I am struggling to find an answer to a question or need to concentrate on any given topic, I reach for my worn-out Warrior hockey stick and my dusty orange ball and begin to stickhandle mindlessly. One might never know, that my mind is far away from hockey as I look like a complete fool deking (hockey term for getting past people) imaginary people on my way to an imaginary net.…

From there, I hope to study to be accepted into medical school and specialize in pediatrics. When preparing for medical school, the advice one hears are to become a well-rounded student. Through my DECA experiences I have been able to develop leadership skills that will help me thrive in my future. Over the three years I have been involved, I have stepped out my comfort zone and made a difference in my local DECA chapter, community, and my future. Now taking the responsibility of being a DECA officer, as the chapter president, has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my leadership, communication, and social skills. Working with the Milan DECA Chapter members has proven how difficult and enjoyable being a leader is. At times leading so many events can be stressful; however, the completion of the events pushes me further. In order to reach the goal of becoming ‘well-rounded’, I used DECA skills to organize my time to join other extracurriculars within my community. Along with DECA, I participate in 4-H which is a non-profit organization in counties all across the nation that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Furthermore, I lead my 4-H club in a Relay For Life team through the American Cancer Society. Additionally, I am a dedicated musician, drum major, and the first Milan High School Flute Choir Director. I am an active participant in the peer education program at Milan High School. Playing Ice Hockey was a burning passion of mine. It all started in the cold and dense locker room. Practice had just finished up and we were inside the locker room getting undressed. I was a forward on the team and was only ten years old. The team goalie was sick and was not going to be able to make our game the next day. Coach asked “Is anyone willing to play goalie for our game?” and I, the young ten year old boy I was; was the first person to quickly respond saying “I will!” Playing goalie was destined for me, I was a star and very talented.…

I was 2015 First Team All Orange County Player, All Sunset League Player two years, and CIF Champion. That hard work and dedication lead to multiple Division I offers. Growing up, I was never naturally athletic and very injury prone. Regardless of these issues, I always remained determined and strived to accomplish my goals. As I enter high school one of my main goals was to make the varsity tennis team. During my freshmen year I practiced every day for the first 3 months of school hoping that I could just make the team. Unfortunately I tore a ligament in my wrist for the second time which prevented me from practicing till right before the tennis season started. I ended barely making the JV team which was very disappointing, but it only motivated me for next year. In my heart I knew that I if I was determined enough I could play varsity next year on my own merit. As I progressed through the sophomore year,…

I would like to start off with a simple, yet powerful quote, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” -Wayne Gretzky. This quote does truly speak levels, which is why when I take shots I go big or I go home. I want to become a registered CPA and I would like to become the President of the University of Central Florida’s Phi Beta Lambda. I believe I can achieve these goals because of how I have adapted, developed, and changed over just my high school years. I would like to start off by saying I was not a public school child initially, my mother homeschooled me. In fact, 9th grade year was my first year in public school. I was an average teenager, I took all regular and one intermediate class. Little did I know I would be taking dual enrollment…

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

I have been part of Barrington High School’s track team for all three of my high school years and I intend on being on it again next year. As a varsity member for the duration of my track career, I have had the opportunity to be a leader on my team through positive energy and hard work. By working hard and continuing to have a positive attitude in both meets and practices I have been able to lead by example and have a positive impact on our track program. Other than my leadership role within track, I have been a leader by volunteering in my schools “broncos committed” program. Through this program, I have been able to attend middle school events, encouraging up and coming freshman to live a drug and alcohol free lifestyle once they enter high school. Being a leader is something that is important to me because I can make a difference by setting a good example for the people on my gymnastics and track teams as well as the other people in my…

I have always wanted to be an athlete since I was a child but due to my health at the time, I was not able to get involved with anything that had to do with sports or physical activities at school. I remember when I was unable to go to school for about a week and a half because I couldn’t walk more than five steps without being out of breathe and having to use an inhaler so there was no way I could even think about playing sports. As time went by, my health has gotten better without any help. I would somehow still carry that same inhaler with me everywhere I go even though I never had a use for it. I was not even sure if it still worked, I just wanted to have it with me just in case something does happen. I met my boyfriend in college and he…
