Personal Statement: A Career As An Athlete
I have always wanted to be an athlete since I was a child but due to my health at the time, I was not able to get involved with anything that had to do with sports or physical activities at school. I remember when I was unable to go to school for about a week and a half because I couldn’t walk more than five steps without being out of breathe and having to use an inhaler so there was no way I could even think about playing sports. As time went by, my health has gotten better without any help. I would somehow still carry that same inhaler with me everywhere I go even though I never had a use for it. I was not even sure if it still worked, I just wanted to have it with me just in case something does happen. I met my boyfriend in college and he …show more content…
I did not get to do what I wanted to because of it and it was definitely the reason why I never pursued with sports or attempted to exercise. I wanted to run for miles like the runners in a marathon without shortening my breathe, but it just seemed impossible as I was already struggling to run for just one minute at a slow pace. People around me such as friends, teachers, family, always seemed to think that I have the best skinny body in the entire world that they wished to have. I think to myself that I look like a stick walking around, I was never happy with my body. Growing up, I knew that to have a skinny body you must exercise but I had no idea what exercise …show more content…
To me, it means dedication and commitment, the amount of time and hard work I have put in to become a better version of myself. Exercise has given me strength, discipline and confidence. I used to eat anything I wanted and not paying it much of an attention or knowing what it does to my body. I never once think about exercising but ever since I was introduced to eating healthier and learning how to exercise, I would never look back and regret following through with this

To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. From the day I could walk, I was involved in sports. From playing tee-ball in the backyard with my dad when I was three, to trying three new sports as a senior, athletics have been an integral part of my life. In my elementary school days, I tried every sport that was offered through the Jefferson Parks and Recreation. This included baseball, football, wrestling, karate, soccer, and tennis. Through middle school, I dropped several of these sports to focus on my two favorite sports, baseball and wrestling. Training for these two sports never ended and most of my time was spent either on a baseball field or on a wrestling mat. Entering my high school years, baseball and wrestling were the only sports I competed in. By my sophomore year, I was…

physically gifted they may bepropositioned me. He bet me that he could either strike me out or force an out. This was a bold maneuver. Vincent knew I would not turn him down. Deciding to let him win in front of the parents, or shatter his confidence was tough. The entire team went out onto the field knowing that I would hit the ball for the reason that it was impossible to strike me out. I let him throw the first strike, and swung and missed on the second pitch. The parents joined in the action and cheered him on, with the hopes of seeing an elementary school kid strike out a high school baseball player. I came to the realization that I have much more to give than allowing Vincent to strike me out just to make the onlookers happy. I hit the…

From the time I was a young child, I was taught the importance of hard work and dedication. Up to this point, I have lived by these principles, incorporating them into every aspect of my life. Although this determination has proved useful in many circumstances, it has been most apparent in my one true passion: soccer. I have put my heart and soul into the sport since the moment my five-year-old feet first touched a ball. Now I believe that growing up is about making decisions that one’s former self would have been much too frightened or intimidated by to follow through with. In some cases, it is having enough of a backbone to avoid being walked upon by those who think that they have a right to do so, no matter the repercussions. That is why that, in my opinion, the moment that I quit the Seneca Valley Varsity Soccer team was the moment that I finalized my transition from childhood to adulthood.…

I attended the career fair event in the Carson Center with the intent to talk to people willing to employ Athletic Trainers. I had been looking forward to it, and soon realized it was not what I thought it would be. I had previously looked into a few of the participant’s companies and found a few that might be worth talking to. However, this number was few and far between for only Athletic Training jobs. Some of the people I talked to were more interested in me if I had a Pre-Physical Therapy track rather than just Athletic Training, such as Common Wealth Health Corporation, Wabash Christian Therapy, and Pro Rehab. Considering I have not yet decided if I wanted to just go into Physical Therapy or just Athletic Training yet. Meeting these people felt like I was almost incompetent with my future degree since I am leaning towards a Master’s in Athletic Training.…

As the young and naive children we were, adults always told us to never give up on our dreams. This statement usually applied to the impractical dreams of becoming president of the United States, transforming into a superhero, or playing alongside professional athletes. These were all big ideas and aspirations that fueled our carefree childhoods, and were appropriate practice for shaping the paths to our true passions we discover later on in our lives; particularly in high school. High school is where teenagers are able experiment and begin to understand themselves as individuals, rather than what everybody else likes to do. Of course there are exceptions to those who are the “followers” rather than the “leaders”, but I’d like to claim I had…

Sport is a main and extremely important part of my life, and experience in coaching and working with younger students, in and around school, has enhanced my love for sport further. I enjoy both the practical and theoretical side of sport. The practical side of sport lets me express myself; whilst at the same time, giving me the opportunity to utilize my natural ability for sport and allows me to show younger people how to achieve in certain sporting actions, or to even learn from them about the way that they would carry out this particular movement. Helping and learning are the main two aspects that make sports coaching so enjoyable. The theoretical side of sport lets me immerse myself in the mechanics and sheer size of sport.…
