Boxer of Animal Farm conformed to the society on the farm by following rules set by Napoleon and orders sent out by Napoleon.
He dedicated his life on the farm to live by Napoleon’s unjust rules. “If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right. ” Even in hard times, he still hung on to this motto of his, believing in Napoleon and that his actions are intended to have a positive, just and fair impact on the animals living on the farm.
In addition to Boxer conforming to the society on Animal Farm, he did not have a true opinion on everything that happened. Like stated, in hard times, Boxer never gave up hope on Napoleon. But conforming to the environment under Napoleon’s rule had an impact on Boxer and the residents of the farm. The animals all lived in fear. They were afraid of what would happen if they questioned the actions of Napoleon. Their opinions threatened his authority. Boxer, in many times, refused to question Napoleon’s actions. He clung to the hope that everything Napoleon was doing was
right.
Unlike Boxer, Katniss rebelled against the Capitol. She refused to be a piece of mere amusement for the audiences of the Capitol. She lives up to the odds that are in her favor. She used her voice when all of the other Districts were silent. “ ‘I volunteer!’ I gasp. ‘I volunteer as tribute!’ “ This is one of the many examples in the books that foreshadows Katniss’s rebellion. This very action was a mere threat to the Capitol. Further into the story, if you have read it, you will see more examples of her planned rebellions and unplanned rebellions.
In contrast to this, Katniss almost faced death. She was practically putting herself on the death poll when she volunteered for her sister during the Reaping. “But in District 12, where the word tribute is pretty synonymous with the word corpse, volunteers are all but extinct.” This quote is stating that volunteering is dying for someone else voluntarily. It also catches the Gamemakers’ attention. Volunteers rarely ever happened. This action put her at a risk of being the odd one out of all the tributes. Doing something out of protocol or order makes you stand out. When you stand out, all eyes are on you for your next move. That is what happened to Katniss.
In conclusion, In this world, we are judged for not following the norms of society, but also judged for being so involved and caught up with the norm. Katniss and Boxer both suffered from consequences. Even though Boxer conformed to the farm, consequences never trail far behind. Katniss did not conform in the book and consequences always trail behind you no matter what. Conformity and nonconformity comes with consequences.
