The English language is always evolving and technology is only advancing the way we interact. Language has to continually change to stay relevant with technological advances in the modern times. Although it may appear that slang is destroying the English language, it is simply progressing, just as language from Shakespearean times has progressed to how we speak now. Secondly, the English language is just that- a language; it is something that cannot be ‘ruined’, only developed and influenced by the society using it. These are the reasons to why I disagree with the claim that the English language is being ruined by technology. Newer generations are changing language due to technology, but this does not mean it is being ruined. Constantly since the beginning of time, evolution of language has occurred, making it normal and beneficial in the way we communicate. Had language never evolved, we would still communicate like cavemen, making daily life impossible and incredibly inconvenient. To function efficiently in the present day world we need different words than the words needed in medieval times. There are no set rules on what makes the language good or bad. People who claim a language is being ruined are just acknowledging that language is not how it used to be, and are using technology as something to blame for this.
