Previously to beginning the component of snorkelling, I assumed I was fairly confident with this activity as I had been on numerous personal snorkelling trip. However, I was initially oblivious to the safety rules as well as correct techniques used whilst snorkelling to enhance an overall safer and pleasurable outing. Therefore, the score I rate myself of how much I knew about snorkelling before starting the unit is an average 5.

From completing this section within Marine Studies I was able to acquire whilst also further develop my knowledge on snorkelling. I am now aware of the particular safety rules and skills in the area of snorkelling.
I attained knowledge on the advantages of using modern snorkelling equipment. For example; a modern face mask made of silicon rubber with tempered glass, a double seal, double strap and soft nose pocket; allows clear vision underwater by maintaining an air space in front of the eyes. I was compulsory to listen to my body’s gestures which sometimes resulted an earlier assent from a dive compared to other members of the group. Diving within your personal limits is important as everyone is different and your body knows when you’ve had enough. It is important not to force the body as it could embolden the risk of over exertion and hypothermia. Earlier symptoms which are recognisable to the diver consist of leg cramps and feeling fatigued. To prevent the body shutting down and organs failing, from hypothermia, it is suggested that if receiving the symptoms of goose bumps, shivering and or paleness, return to shore and immediately get
