Every kid loves Christmas. They love the presents, the festivities, the decorations and of course the food. Well, the citizens of Whoville are no different, in fact, they may be a little over the top. The Grinch the movie is based off of the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr, Seuss. The film stars Jim Carrey as The Grinch and was released on November 8th of 2000 which is only a year after I was born. Although I was young when I was first introduced to the movie, as I grew, it really made it evident to me that the holidays are entirely about the importance of community and that material things do not define Christmas.

This is demonstrated in many ways. Some of which are shown at the beginning of the film, like the mental Christmas light contest between Cindy Lou’s mother and Martha May or the extremely exaggerated Christmas shopping during which one individual exclaims that for the last five minutes, every item is ninety-nine percent off and every Who rushes off in every direction basically creating chaos.
The movie starts out with the Grinch as child, being just like any other Who. He lives with a normal Who family and goes to school with all of the normal Who boys and girls up until his first Christmas. The Grinch and his peers are informed by their teacher that they will be exchanging presents to for the Christmas season. The young Grinch decides to gift his present to his crush, a youthful Martha May (who is now the Mayor’s wife). He rushes home to construct his gift and get ready for the big day. When the day finally arrives his classmates immediately begin to make fun of the Grinch and his present. At this point, he has had enough.
