This assignment is designed to provide you with the opportunity to use the skills you possess, coupled with the knowledge gained in class, to execute an effective extemporaneous informative presentation. The topic can come from a wide variety of areas - i.e., an historical event, present/past figures of note, organization, issue, concern, etc. Make sure you target the presentation to your specific audience, provide a “WOW” factor in your opening comments, include 3-5 main points (body), document sources and make your closing a memorable one.
Procedure
1. Select type of presentation (Informative – see Chapter 13 in text)
2. Choose a specific topic and clear it with the instructor
3. Analyze your Target Audience appropriately
4. Research topic thoroughly (see Tab 2 in text/Chapters 3-4)
5. Prepare Full Sentence Outline (see Chapter 5)
6. Organize Body of Presentation (see Chapter 6 )
7. Write Introduction & Conclusion (see Chapter 7)
8. Practice thoroughly
9. Deliver speech
10. Receive results next class period (100 total points possible)
Specifics
1. The presentation should be 6 minutes in length (1 minute window provided on both sides).
2. A neatly typed, 12 point, full sentence outline & minimum 5 credible source Reference Page (see supplement titled “Citing Sources with APA Documentation” & specifically pages 32-49) must be turned in using the APA Referencing Style on the assigned date announced. Staple the Source Page to your Preparation Outline before turning them in.
3. You are required to include computer-mediated technology (i.e. Power Point, Prezi, etc…) as part of your Visual Aid usage (see Chapter 10).
4. Title your speech and provide it to your chairperson the class period before speaking.
5. Speakers may use a maximum of three 3x5 or 4x6 note cards – write on one side of notecard only.
