Frank is Anne’s father and role-model. He is the only person in the Frank family that Anne truly loves as a person, and not because he is a family member. With Daddy it’s different… I want something from Daddy that he is not able to give me… It is only that I long for Daddy’s real love: not only as his child, but for me--Anne myself.” “I cling to Daddy because it is only through him that I am able to retain the remnant of family feeling.” (Frank 44-45). He is a flat character mainly because the reader is not given enough description about his personality within the diary, thus one cannot relate to him in general.
