Reading was a very interesting experience as I remember enjoying learning the English alphabet. The teacher used charts which had the alphabetical letters to teach us the sounds using songs. The teacher would make us sing aloud which helped me and other children learn alphabetical order and the letter sounds. The teacher also taught us how to write the alphabetical letters. I remember my teacher noting that I was a pretty good learner as I would master the alphabets fast. After learning the alphabets, we were taught how to construct words and then sentences. The teacher would often instruct us to write compositions about our parents, our home, pets, and favorite food among other prompts. The teacher would then read the best compositions. Though at the time I did not realize the importance of comprehension, I later recognized that it helped me read and understand words and make connections to the reading. I learnt skills which helped me analyze text and make meaning out of it. Reading story books became much fun as I was able to understand the information being conveyed in the text and I also learnt spellings as well as pronunciation of new
