How To Reduce Distracted Driving

When the automobile was first created, in the 1920s, it allowed people to be able to travel longer distances in a shorter amount of time; it was an amazing invention. Over the years, driving has become more dangerous. Distracted driving has become a major concern. Distracted driving means involving in an activity that are not necessary to do while driving a vehicle (Distracted Driving). For example: using the phone, eating, drinking, changing music selection, and speeding (Distracted Driving). When a driver is distracted, there are more accidents on America’s roadways. They think that laws are not necessary to enforce people. Laws will suspect certain people and it will take away people's liberty(Atchiller 3). Some people suggest that, instead of making laws people need education and enforcement. There is a phrase that says, best way to deal with a technology- caused problem is with technology driven solution(The real American Carnage Is on the Nation’s Highways). People are suggesting apps, driving mode and a rewarding system to encourage drivers to stay focused on driving to prevent distraction. There are apps, that can block calls and text message and those apps will block every calls and text message except 911 which way people will be focused on driving(The real American Carnage Is on the Nation’s Highways 3). Now that there is an app that can prevent people from distraction, people need to educate themselves with those apps. People can use those apps while they drive. Drivers should have postcard in their car as a reminder for them to use those types of apps. In a phone, there are different type of mode (Simons and Chabris 3). For example; airplane mode, bluetooth and location service. In order to use those mode people have to swipe the on button. In some phone there is a driving mode too. This mode will automatically send a caller with a text message, if the vehicle is in motion(Simons and Chabris 3 to 4). Not all the people know about this mode, but those who knows about this mode doesn’t take it seriously because there is no reward systems. If the insurance company or car company establishes reward system for those who uses these mood than the users for driving mode will increase and distracted driving will decrease(by Simons and Chabris 3 to 4).
